Two years ago, Yugo Sakamoto’s quirky action comedy Baby Assassins came out of nowhere and blew me away with its story of Mahiro and Chisato two high school girls who live secret lives as assassins.
Now the girls are back in Baby Assassins 2 Babies, and they haven’t gotten any better at dealing with day-to-day things like paying their bills. A gym membership that’s been collecting late fees for five years and their insurance needs to be paid immediately. But when robbers strike the bank as they’re trying to, they intervene and get suspended from the Assassin’s Guild for using their skills off the clock.
But finding another job to pay the bills is the least of their problems. Makoto and Yuri are looking...

Along with the expansion of streaming, among the unintended consequences of Covid and the SAG-AFTRA actors strike has been global consumers’ growing consumption of non-English-language films and TV shows. That in turn has elevated familiarity with and acceptance of Asian local shows and Asian performers – not just those riding the Korean wave.
Japan’s Meguro Ren this week returned to screens across the world in Netflix acquisition of “Trillion Game,” a fantasy drama set in the business world, or the get-rich-quick end of it at least.
Meguro has trodden a familiar path – years of training within the Johnny & Associates talent agency (soon to change its name due to a sexual abuse scandal), insertion into a junior music and, since 2019, as a singer and dancer with the Johnny’s backed idol group Snowman.

Netflix will add plenty of action films and summer classics in the month of July. From “Bridesmaids” to “Jumanji” (1995) and “Kick-Ass,” the streamer’s selection kicks off the beginning of the month with options for many. “Star Trek” fans will have some films to choose from, as will fans of “The Karate Kid.” Anime fans can look forward to “One Piece,” “Baki Hanma: Season 2: The Tale of Pickle & The Pickle War Saga,” “Bastard!! – Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy -: Season 2,” “My Happy Marriage” and “Record of Ragnarok” Season 2 Episodes 11-15.
