- When it becomes widely known that a best-selling feminist author and lecturer has joined an Internet dating site, she apparently commits suicide.
- When lonely feminist lecturer Miranda Thornton is found dead after a video she submitted to a dating agency is viciously made public on a scurrilous website, the first conclusion is suicide. But,with her answer phone removed and finger prints wiped, foul play is suspected. Miranda opposed property developer David Connelly buying land belonging to her college and had been visited, via the website by unhappily married journalist Francis Mitchell, though he states that Miranda was dead when he visited her. Embittered ex-student Sebastian Dromgoole admits to posting the video but Hathaway is guilt-ridden after Dromgoole's girlfriend, whom he had asked to find out more information,is killed. Having found themselves on the website Lewis and Hathaway find that, contrary to claims, their principal suspects have known each other for two decades.—don @ minifie-1
- DI Lewis and DS Hathaway investigate the death of Miranda Thornton, an Oxford professor of English literature who is found dead on her bed in her house. It has all the earmarks of a suicide but Dr. Laura Hobson is having some difficulty determining the exact cause of death. Thornton had recently become the object of ridicule in academic circles. She had made a name for herself in the 1990s thanks to her book arguing that women could live without men. Now, a local Internet site has posted the video she made for an online dating service. Miranda was generally but was having a disagreement with a property developer over a proposed housing development and had threatened to sue the owner of the web site. The police aren't making a great deal of headway but a second death - this time definitely a murder - and the fact that most of the principals seem to have been at school together sends Lewis off in the right direction.—garykmcd
- A renowned professor is found dead. She came to fame in the 1990s by publishing a book on why women don't need men but now her dating site video has somehow found its way onto a gossip site. Most indications, including Dr Hobson's analysis, point to suicide but Lewis is not convinced.—grantss
