Hilarious but the cast was too big.
scottroberts19837 June 2012
From the opening scene a chuckle began to form in the crowd. The chuckle then became a laugh and eventually sore cheek muscles from the smiling. This movie marked some of the most laughing I've ever done in a single sitting, even the potty humor was done in good taste... Well as tasteful as potty humor could be... OK so some of the humor was a little immature. Still funny.

The Score was great and dead-on for the emotional pace of the movie, but a lack of fanfare meant I won't be humming it anytime soon.

The cast was delightful, each character could have carried the entire film and there were 14 main characters (split into 4 story lines). There-in lies the one drawback to this film. With all that was going on, I never really had a chance to connect with these people, which is disappointing because they were all so much fun. Also consequentially the crisis moments didn't' really end up all that critical.

So why am I giving this an 8? Simple, It's just that funny, as in bring some bengay for your aching jaw funny. You are guaranteed to laugh and laugh a lot. And yes mom and dad it's clean. (save the poopy humor, which you'll appreciate.)

Firefall: Add to watch list
dkhherb15 June 2012
Enjoyed the film, and will put it on my cult classic list.Loved the shots of Yosemite. I thought the film quality was good. The ranger characters were great, they all did a great job....funny.I love cult classic films, some of which are B flick category.Usually will find in these kind of films material that goes off the beaten path. Gotta like originality, and Firefall does a good job of that. Definitely a family film, and the characterization of the family groups were good, particularly liked the Wisconsin family, and the rock climbers. Really enjoyed seeing the film at the Crest theater in Fresno.A great venue for this kind of film. Look forward to seeing more work from this group in the future.

An Independent Movie that Surpasses Mainstream in more than just writing
ShiekJ130 October 2012
While I may watch the occasional sitcom, I am not normally a comedy movie type person. That being said, I will get a copy of "Firefall: An Epic Family Adventure" once it finally comes out on DVD.

I was happily impressed with "Firefall: An Epic Family Adventure," as I had seen some previews and was actually expecting it to be the typical over-hyped independent movie that tried too hard, overly filled with crud humor and looked like it was filmed by a novice, and almost didn't go to see the movie. I am SO GLAD that I didn't listen to myself.

While, I do feel that one potty joke in particular lasted FAR too long (could easily have been half the length and still felt too long; you'll understand what I mean when you see it), the rest of the potty humor was generally well timed and didn't try to push the shock level.

If you enjoy comedies, feel good movies, and good characterization with great writing; you will enjoy this movie that one could essentially call, a grown-up's version of a family movie (as in designed for the whole family but that a parent can enjoy more than say a young child would, bucking the trend).

Family, Comedy
julieahilliard12 June 2012
I always look for movies that preteen, teens and adults will find humorous and that I don't have to be embarrassed by overt language or sexual tones. This movie is very funny, as well as clean! The story had a redeeming quality and we enjoyed the interaction of the characters. In this day and age where so many movies are remakes or unoriginal ideas, it's great to see creative and unique storytelling on the big screen. A variety of travelers descend on Yosemite National Park for one last Firefall, where burning logs are pushed over a cliff in a beautiful, burning waterfall. These travelers find more than just burning embers as they take on the "Big" wilderness, life-changing family dynamics, and one grumpy Beast of a Bear. You will find yourself belly-laughing as you relate this adventure to some of your own family vacations. There are lots of very funny moments throughout this delightful film!

Fires,Bears, Kopi....OH MYYYYYY !!@!
guestar5723 November 2013
Stars : Gregory Tharpe,Master Dave Johnson & Kopi Sotiropulos. A Matt Sconce film. Okay,It starts off depressing and confusing ,Trying to find a jump -off premise and then when we leave the city,Things get good. The humor is not necessarily family friendly,Although the situations are very much so. The humor is usually at an animals expense and very, very funny & original in outdoors settings. The cast is very comfortable to watch and like a 'Who's who of Valleywood !' YOSEMITE PARK is filmed with great splendor and really feels like the set of a major motion picture. We could see bringing the' Scottish duo' back for more adventures and Rich Krebs is hilarious with a french bent.

Firefall: An Epic Family Adventure
wilcox7775 June 2012
This is truly a movie for everyone...but only if you like to laugh and have great time! I loved Firefall for so many reasons so here are but a few... The characters are well written, distinct and unique- each one brings a special "spin" to the story The humor ranges from slightly risqué' to 5th-grade potty---but so funny and so in keeping with the story and characters! Loved the scenery and the animals-and yes, they too were hysterical at times... Would I see Firefall again? Oh yea...would I recommend it to others? Oh yea... Great job Matt and Gary Sconce and all the incredible talent....WINNER!

Oh, and another thing...DVD/soundtracks will make great gifts!

Hollywood Walk Of Fame

As I'm typing this, I've had the pleasure of being a part of ten different movies so far, so I know a thing or two about what goes on behind the scenes and in front of the camera on set. Firefall could've easily been premiered in Tinsel Town. EASILY. The amount of creativity and professionalism blew me away. The actors, every single one of them, did an absolutely professional job. One thing, however, is that I wish I could've connected better with the characters. There were so many awesome characters and subplots that I felt like I lost track sometimes. Having said that, there could be so many epic sequels and dare I say prequels to this. Firefall has THAT much potential.

FIREFALL - An Uproarious and Joyous film
jsemperparatus4 June 2012
My wife and I attended FIREFALL An Epic Family Adventure and were so happy. Firefall was about five groups of people visiting Yosemite National Park to see a last showing of the historic flaming ember 'firefall.' The cinematography was breathtaking! The camera movement was fluid and added so much. All of the characters were round and whole, and we found we really cared about them. Director Sconce's use of bright colors throughout the film added crucial vibrancy. Solid dramatic portions were interspersed with the comedy giving a real roller coaster ride of emotions. The lead actors were fantastic and I particularly loved the characters Stanford James (Greg Tharpe), Hugo Armstrong (Michael R. Tweedy), and the rock climbing Scots (Paul Pavelski and Ryan Hoagland). The score was beautiful by composer James Mierkey, who scored Sconce's last film, STRICKEN. The edit was crisp and perfect, in my opinion. The crowd exploded into laughter over and over, and I sat in awe as we all applauded and cheered the action numerous times spontaneously. You would just recover from a gut wrenching laugh and the film would hit you again. People in the room were crying from laughing so hard. Sconce added funny animal footage to the action all through the film. After seeing the film, I now want to travel to Yosemite National Park myself to see its wonder. Director Matt Sconce took an award winning script to amazing heights in FIREFALL. It was so very entertaining. When leaving the theater I chatted with an older man who said he had never in his life laughed so hard at any film. I guess that says it all. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is I know IMDb knocks those out of the overall vote. Go see FIREFALL! Go see it! Go see it! Go see it!

This film is absolutely amazing!! Not only is one of the most hilarious movies I've seen in a long while, it will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. The actors in this film are phenomenal and the editing was spot on! Some of the visuals were breathtaking! You should all want to see this film!! :) Matt Sconce is brilliant in his directing and editing. There was not a weak performance in the bunch. Some parts had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. Gregory Tharpe did a great job as the lead in this film and I look forward to seeing him in many more things. As well as the Rangers! So much fun!!! Rate this movie! See it when it comes out!! You will not regret it!

Best family film ever! Must see. Funny and deeply touching.
StardustLu14 June 2012
This movie had it all. We laughed until our sides hurt. The humor just kept coming at us. Beautiful scenery and a lovely remembrance of the Yosemite Fire fall. Yes, they really used to do that! One of the things that moved my husband and me was getting to know the characters. This was so rare: we laughed, we cried, we felt somehow changed for the better. It was, for us, an epic experience. Also, I must say, the acting just couldn't have been more professional. And the music! It brought it all to life--very fine and well composed. Be sure to treat your whole family to this film. And don't leave out those who have actually seen the fire fall. Great history to remember.

Hilariously Funny!
shanyetta245 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very enjoyable family comedy. It had me laughing uncontrollably more than once. The actors performances were great especially for an independent film. The beauty of Yosemite Narional Park is captured really well. The lead who played Stanford is just as if not more funny than a lot of big name comedians. It has a lot of very touching moments as well. I hope this movie comes to theaters near you all do you can enjoy it as well. Fuzzy wuzzy was very scary. There are a lot of silly real animal moments caught on film. Matt Sconce is an excellent director. This is a must watch for anyone who enjoys a good and funny mockumentary.

Wow
seizingjon5 June 2012
Never before has there been a low budget indie that is as ready for a theatrical release as "Firefall" is. Everything in this film from the the costuming all the way up to the acting is absolutely flawless. Matt Sconce cinematography is absolutely stunning, especially when you find out it was all shot on a DSLR. I challenge everyone to try to figure out which scenes were shot with the Red and which scenes with the GH2, I guarantee you won't figure it out. "Firefall" is a perfect example that indie film is still relevant and deserves more attention. Thank you Matt Sconce for making such an amazing film. And to distributors out there, you better get excited about this film, because any audience who sees this will love it. Get it out there.

Heartwarming and hilarious family adventure!!
scano6320 June 2013
Absolutely loved the movie!! Loved the concept and flow of characters as they each found something missing in their life and then laughed and laughed as they triumphed over their flaws and found their way through the maze of Yosemite National Park and all the dangers within. A real hear-warming adventure. The scenery was breathtaking and made me feel like I went camping!!Or at least want to go camping!! You'll be rooting for them as their stories remind us of our own misadventures and silly ways!! Bring the family and watch it!! It's a nice throwback to family films of yesteryear so get the popcorn out and enjoy the good old days brought back to life through this wonderful and inspiring film.

"Right a movie"
rachellealfreedo5 June 2012
i had the chance to be on set during some of the filming of Firefall ..... i have to say it was great being on set again in the film arena ... i have been performing at a live theater for five years with my small family unite ( i am a single parent)... and when my daughter asked to do the movies i was surely rolling my eyes and saying to myself... "right a movie".... it was not until i saw the stricken premier that i stopped rolling my eyes..... i was so impressed with the quality and i mean quality of expertise i saw..... (and i am not one to watch horror flicks but everyone in the industry knows if you make a good horror you are well on your way to someplace.... where ever that someplace be who knows).... the lighting, the camera work, the sound and especially the various angles and uses of the camera was great.... i knew i was destined to get more involved..... OK so with fire fall i believe it was more about the actors and the talent.... and of course the graphics and sound work including the music.... and stepping out of the box.... especially at the end ...... Matt and Gary sconce i am proud to know you.... i am proud to have been involved.... and i am anxiously looking forward to what the future holds for you.... thanks so much for all you do in the realm of the arts especially in the film industry

Phenomenal!
Congratulations to Matt Sconce and his father Gary. This was such a great movie, even friendly for the kids. I have known these to men for many years, and they never cease to amaze me. What a talented pair! I was expecting to see a low budget local film. This is, by far not the case with this movie. Firefall was both written and directed well. I thought the cast all did an amazing job. Shout out to Heidi Harian who was fantastic. I enjoyed the story line and the comedy was pretty funny. I have seen less impressive movies made in Hollywood. I would recommend this movie to everyone who likes to laugh! Congrats to Heather Sconce too. She really was a "trooper" and so funny! I hope to own this someday to share with my friends and family who missed out on the premiere. It was truly an "epic" movie and well worth watching.
