The entire concept or general idea did not convince me Warning: Spoilers
"The Last Wish" is an American 25-minute short film in the English language from 2011, so this one had its 5th anniversary last year. The writer and director here is fairly prolific filmmaker Michael Matteo Rossi, who wasn't even 25 when he made this one, so taking that into account, it is not a bad achievement. Still there are major weaknesses to the script here. First of all, the film does not leave an emotional impact at all in the way that it could have when it comes to a father losing his child and mourning over said loss. Then there is the idea of some kind of organization being able to reproduce a very special moment between father and son and I am not sure about that but maybe you need to have lost a loved one to understand the dad's approach to the entire scenario. However, a 7%-chance that he gets out with his sanity and without any brain damage is something where I would say: Dude, stick to your memories. You are an idiot if you sacrifice your health for that. The scenes (near the end e.g.) between the father and mother I found generally very forgettable and perhaps when the film is at its weakest. All in all, keeping it at 15 minutes and making it more essential with better focus in story-telling may have been the right decision. The way it turned out here I have to give it a thumbs-down and not recommend seeing it, but I sure hope Rossi takes something from it as he has moments where I saw decent potential.
