End of an era
Prismark1012 February 2015
I first saw the space shuttles in action in the Bond film Moonraker but it was in 1981 when Columbia first launched into space and thus began a 30 year mission which also led to two disasters.

I count myself lucky to see a launch or should I say more accurately wondering at Disney World why were people looking up rather than lineup for the rides and then looked upwards myself.

Former NASA scientist Kevin Fong is granted access to the astronauts and ground crew as they prepare for their final mission of the space shuttle Atlantis. He also gets access to the shuttle itself and talks to people who were involved in the shuttle project from the mid 1970s onwards and after this mission they also would be saying goodbye.

No doubt its an interesting programme and bittersweet as talking to the people in NASA some of them at the unglamorous side of the space missions bring home the thrills and sadness they have experienced over the years.

Its tense as we countdown to the launch for one last time, sad as well as NASA have yet to develop a replacement programme for the space shuttle.
