It's alright but why about 'mating'?
Theraxorterminate8 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those episodes that uses the similar way like "Anthology of Interests 1 & 2", Reincarnation etc but this time our favorite gang becomes into animals. This doesn't necessarily sounds so bad really but frankly I was a little disappointed about it's presentation of the main theme being about something so simple and not about something theoretic which Futurama would have done in the other episodes. In all three segments it's all about wanting to mate for, two for love and one for survival of a certain species.

What made "Anthology of Interests 1 & 2" and Reincarnation (which is one of my favorites) so good and interesting is that they would show something with moral and when something impossible becomes possible and do you get in this episode? Well there are good morals but nothing incredible in my opinion.

The first segment is very cute and at times have some good traditional gags from Futurama delivering a nice presentation with Fry and Leela relationship.

The second segment is my least favorite of the whole episode, although despite having a few good jokes it didn't deliver something fresh at all it felt too slow for the characters of it especially The Pinta Island Tortoise character being played by Farnsworth himself.

The third segment was actually pretty interesting to show the character of Bender how it would have been like if he were the biggest of them all. Although I felt really sorry for Kif in the end it could have ended better.

Is it recommended? Though I don't hate this episode, I don't think it's one of Futurama's best episodes out there. There are good moments and good jokes but I just didn't like so much of it's main theme. It could have been about something else than 'mating'.

I laughed my head off!

I love episodes like this when they're done sparingly. The fun of these jokes comes from the viewers' familiarity with the existing characters and their appearances and voices. The satire of real science and biology skewed in such absurd ways is just hilarious.

The first segment is about salmon, focusing on the spawning and survival of salmon throughout their lives. The second is about Galapagos tortoises and their near extinction, as well as the evolution of finches. And the third is about elephant seals and their social hierarchy. The jokes in all three mainly rely on knowledge of existing scientific knowledge and how Futurama's characters might fit into those situations. For example, Bender and his self-centered nature fits with the elephant seal Beachmaster, and Professor Farnsworth in his old age acting as an ancient tortoise.

I laughed till I cried at how absurd this episode was and the jokes that caught me off guard. Clearly, the voice actors, animators, and writers were having a great time, and I enjoyed it along with them. Enjoying this episode requires an appreciation of scientific facts and a humorous perception of them.

It's perfectly fine I suppose, not at all interesting though. Jokes are boring. It's not actively bad, there's just nothing engaging about it whatsoever.

In general, these anthology episodes of Futurama tend to be very tiresome and uninteresting.

I don't have much more to say, because there isn't much to say about this. It's not a particularly memorable episode.

It's a shame really because if you're watching while binging it really ruins the pace of the show and tires you out. I'd say it's worth skipping.

It might be my least favourite episode of the show in terms of how entertaining it is. When I thought of the "worst episode" this one came to mind. I think one or two other episodes are just about as bad in terms of either their entertainment value or message ("Forty Percent Leadbelly" and "Bend Her" perhaps)

The worst episode of futurama
pedrowarmerdam25 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At least in my opinión, this is the worst episode of futurama, you could say that there are worst episode like the gender swap one or the toy anthology one, but that episodes had something that this not, they use the future setting in one way or another, and you feel like watching a Futurama episode, but this episode is so bad that you can change the characters for literally any other characters for other shows and it would be the same meh episode, but the episode itself it's not that bad, the designs are cool and some jokes make me laugh a little and the premise of a Futurama episode parodying animal documentals it's not that bad, and even with that concept you could explore future or mutated animales, like the hypnotoad or the kiff species, but no, only normal animals with some minor details so you could say "oooh it's that characters", idk this episode it's so not Futurama and so mediocre.

Bored Writers
biznym-imdb20 September 2022
What happened to the Sci-Fi comedy, this episode was some 3rd rate show about fish, turtles and seals! Some of the episodes in this season were so poorly written with stories that deviated from the funny show that was Futurama, but this was beyond belief!!

I cannot believe they finished the final season with an episode which did not even show the characters or visit planet express. It is like the writers got bored with the show and decided to do something completely different for no apparent reason. The animators were brilliant as usual but why did the show just go off the rails in this way!!
