- In her day life, Cathy runs into Dr. Sherman and his much younger second wife, Gia, who invites Cathy and Paul over for dinner. Not wanting to offend the person who is potentially saving her life, Cathy accepts. From dinner, Cathy learns a little bit about how to live in the face of death. It is difficult for Cathy to watch Lee give up on life as he decides to drop out of this trial, the latest failure of many in terms of trials. Based on what Cathy finds hidden in her kitchen, she tries to convince Lee to fight for his life. Cathy and Adam lead a campaign to find a missing Sean, who they are more concerned about now that winter has arrived. Adam learns the God that is Sean among the homeless. Based on Paul's assertion that Mykail is losing his freedom because of his obsession with Andrea, Mykail decides on his future. And one of Mykail and Paul's "under the counter" customers pays them in something besides cash, which adds some spice to stodgy Paul's life.—Huggo
- We open with Cathy and Lee looking for Sean. Lee tells her he's dont with the trial and will be leaving the city after his marathon.
Cathy is still losing fingernails and couldn't be happier. Paul is dieting but can't seem to drop any weight. The following day he'll have an all-nighter doing inventory at work.
Since she's been spending so much time with Mike Andrea is having trouble staying awake at school. She been out all night and Cathy is worried.
Dr. Sherman and his young wife Gia are at one of Cathy's swim meets. When Sherman leaves for the restroom the two women talk. Gia opens up about her sex life with Sherman who she says has an insatiable appetite for performing oral sex. Gia seems to like Cathy. She invites Cathy and Paul over for dinner. Cathy doesn't seem sure about her. Paul comes back from the snack bar and hears about the invite.
Lee recommends Cathy take two bottles of Chianti to the dinner at Sherman's house. Lee doesn't seem to be doing well. Cathy has found a holistic clinic in Los Angeles that has cured several famous people. Lee says he doesn't want to do another trial.
While hanging Missing posters for Sean, Adam runs into a street budy of Sean's who calls him "Mad Dog." The guy tells Adam he's one of them and offers him a seat at their fire to warm his hands.
Paul is impressed with how spry Mik seems during their inventory session. Mik admits his energy is the result of cocaine a client had to pay with. He gives Paul his share in drugs but makes him promise not to tell Andrea. Paul makes a crack about Andrea having his number already. With six hours left in the shift Paul ends up taking some coke to get through.
Adam thinks Cathy is being a "spaz" about trying to find Sean.
While looking through the cubbard Cathy finds Paul's stash of cash in a Cheetos container.
Andrea picks up Mik at the end of his shift. Mik seems distracted and tells her about Paul making fun of him for having his woman take his freedom. This pisses her off and she tries to kick him out of her car. He says he doesn't want to break up with her, but rather would like for them to get married. She doesn't seem to hate the idea and they kiss.
Later that day Cathy comes home to find Paul doing ab stretches. She asks about the 5+ grand from the Cheetos canister and he admits it's his. He tells her he has a piece of a stealing operation at work to help pay for her treatment. She hates it but Paul insists he won't be made to feel guilty.
After dinner Gia shows up some of the art they've collected during their travels. Gia has a PhD in ancient civilizations. Sherman talks about vacation and the virtues of "doing nothing." Gia brings out a dessert she made and Cathy and Paul are disturbed watching Sherman voraciously eat his wife's Cannoli. Sherman talks about how difficult it is to run a decent clinical trial in the United States, mentioning that far more ambitious research takes place overseas. Adam calls with what sounds like bad news.
Someone called in reference ot their missing person flier and Cathy, Paul and Adam must identify a frozen body. It turns out not to be Sean.
Back at home Cathy admits to Paul that for a split second when she thought Sean was dead she felt relieved. She leaves to check on Adam and Paul calls Mik to get more coke.
Cathy drops by Lee's place early the next morning. She's made him an appointment with a treatment center in Germany that is using a drug not yet available in the US. She even bought him a plane ticket with Paul's money. When Lee says he's at peace with dying she is furious. Cathy thinks he is giving up and says if he cares about her he'll go. He says "this is my life" and won't compromise his beliefs. He said he doesn't have time to worry about anybody else. She says "you're on your own" and storms out.
Adam gets irritated with Sean's street friend when he sees they've "decorated" Sean's missing poster. He doesn't think they understand family at all given that they allow their own families to worry.
Andrea skipped school and Cathy questions her further about her behavior with Mik. Andrea shows her an engagement ring. When Cathy thinks it sounds rash Andrea responds that "I'm not going to wait until I have cancer to do what makes me happy."
Cathy comes home with news that her team won the championship. She tells Paul and Adam she wants them to take a trip to Italy for the holiday.
