Not to be outdone by Netflix with its upcoming event series adaptations of Marvel comic book titles, Fox is seeking to expand its own comic book interests beyond the city limits of Gotham, and into the realms of Enormous. While filmmakers have been tinkering with the original graphic novel and comic book series for several years, it seems that producer Adrian Askarieh (Hitman) has finally got his foot on the gas pedal, and is headed for an event series with 20th Century Fox, New Regency Television and Prime Universe Films.
There are no spandex covered superheroes in this story, though. This is a dark, action-packed adventure tale with an honest-to-goodness female lead in the form of Ellen Grace – a former school teacher.
A full synopsis features on the official Enormous website and can be seen below:

YouTube network Machinima has unveiled new sci-fi short Enormous, a live-action pilot which Machinima will give a series commitment to if its 10.9M YouTube fans demand it. (Watch it below.) Ceren Lee stars in Enormous as a resistance fighter in the post-apocalyptic future in which massive insect-like monsters have invaded Earth. Enormous is the second of three original shorts Machinima is debuting this month, each with the potential for a series greenlight, marking an essential next step as Machinima attempts to evolve from YouTube video aggregator to content producer. Machinima’s recent $18M investment from Warner Bros. and yesterday’s addition of ex-Fox Networks CEO Tony Vinciquerra to its board are signs of its transition from programming other creators’ work to owning its own IP. Here’s how this one came together as the company began seeking original content. Producer Adrian Askarieh, whose feature films include 2007′s Hitman and the upcoming Agent 47,...

Well, now. Here are a couple of our favorite people ending up in the same place at the same time. Trollhunter director Andre Ovredal has penned the script to Enormous, a new web series based on the comic by Tim Daniel and Mehdi Cheggour, with directing duties falling to BenDavid Grabinski who won much love here with his horror-action-comedy short film The Cost Of Living a few years back.Ceren Lee stars as Ellen, a mother who scavenges a post-apocalyptic world in search of missing children before something ... bigger finds them. The cast also includes Steve Braun (Wrong Turn 2), Erica Gimpel (Veronica Mars), Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies), Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine) and Simon Barrett (You're Next). The first full episode of Enormous will arrive...

There is nothing like an outstanding short film. You get all the perks of a feature without having to dedicate two hours to the thing. And BenDavid Grabinski has a star-studded short for you entitled Cost of Living.
Starring no less than Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Dylan Dog: Dead of Night) and Bret Harrison ("V," "Reaper" and "Breaking In"), Cost of Living is a cool look at the day-to-day life of a pair of security guards who are just about fed up with their current positions.
If you like what you see, check out the official Cost of Living website .

Here's an awesome short sci-fi film called Cost of Living, written and directed by first-time filmmaker BenDavid Grabinski. This great little movie stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Bret Harrison (Reaper, Breaking In). The story follows two young security guards who work at an unusual corporation, and they end up having one hell of a bad night fighting off and destroying the dangerous monsters that the Corporation engineers.
I'd love to see this get adapted into a feature film. Watch the short below, and tell us what you think!

BenDavid Grabinski's short film Cost Of Living was a great favorite at the 2011 Fantastic Fest, the slyly comic horror comedy tapping into a classic John Carpenter vibe with former Superman Brandon Routh playing Kurt Russell to Grabinski's Carpenter. It's great fun and you no longer have to take our word for it because the producers have just released the full short online. Yes, on Valentine's Day. Because they love you. Check it out on the official site....

On Friday we posted an exclusive interview with Cost Of Living writer/director BenDavid Grabinski, and now the short film is here for you to watch. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) and Bret Harrison ("Breaking In", "Reaper") star in the film in which, "Silas and Jerry work for an unusual corporation. One day things go wrong... Scary things." Hit the jump to check out Cost Of Living and look below for some bits of the interview we decided were to spoilery to post in advance of it hitting the web... It's an action-packed short interspersed between an extended back and forth the two characters are having...

Keep in mind that Cost Of Living is only a short. Seriously, its only about 9 minutes long. Maybe even less. But it packs a surprisingly cinematic wallop. While most shorts are content to live within the inherently meager means of the medium, Cost Of Living feels like a giant movie trapped inside a little box bursting at the seams. Writer/director BenDavid Grabinski is a fan of big movies, something that shows in every splatter soaked frame of his inaugural effort at the helm. From a recent year end article, Filmed in a tunnel system familiar to any fan of They Live, this short packs more character, humor, action and gore into its 8 minute running time than many of the features I had to sit through this year. Particularly inspired is the computerized voice of the automated security system...

Without a doubt one of my very favorite moments of Fantastic Fest 2011 was the premiere screening of BenDavid Grabinski's action-horror-comedy hybrid short film Cost Of Living. The story of a pair of security guards in an experimental research facility caught in the midst of a creature breakout, the film is a slick, funny and scary (when it needs to be) trip into a world that would have fit right into John Carpenter's ouvre circa 1983 or so with Brandon Routh playing the Kurt Russell role. And, it must be said, playing it brilliantly. Routh gives an eye opening performance in this thing, perfectly balancing action hero machismo with understated, quietly absurd humor. Bluntly, this film made me instantly understand that Routh has been consistently...

We're in Austin, Texas for the shank of this year's Fantastic Fest. If our preview chat with Tim League had you interested, be sure to hit refresh on this page over and over and over like a moon-eyed crazy person all day Sat, Sun and Monday for updates.

Fantastic Fest is already in full swing. I'm not there yet, but I'm flying in tonight. Last night I was all over Twitter to hear descriptions of The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)'s pre-screening antics. An hour and a half later, I read virtually every critic say it was awful. (Though one or two defended it as "having something to say about obsessed fandom.")
As a jury member for this year's "features" division - which means full length movies that aren't straight-up horror movies - I've actually been able to get a sneak peek at some of the eight movies in competition.

Fantastic Fest Announces List Of Short Films which includes must sees ‘Cop Hard’ and ‘Infernal Nuns’
The complete list of short films screening at Fantastic Fest has been announced. Unfortunatly as with most short films, there isn’t too much known about many of these. I know Infernal Nuns recieved a lot of praise from various blogs after it screened at Fantasia and Cop Hard is based on the popular web series, but apart from that, I’m pretty much in the dark. What I do know is that sometimes the short films are more rewarding than some features. Remember folks, some of these directors may go on to do some very big things in the near future, so try and check them out. Here is the press release.

Anybody can tell a good tale, spin a quality yarn so to speak, if given an hour and a half. But to accomplish that same feat in 15 minutes or so, now that's doing something. And Fantastic Fest has announced the lineup of 50 films doing just that for this year's program.
The Fantastic Fest shorts will be presented during the festival, which runs September 22-29 in Austin, Texas. With running times as long as thirty minutes and a short as two, and coming from over a dozen countries, the films look as diverse as they will be entertaining. Take a gander at the huge list complied below, and for those of you lucky enough to be in the great state of Texas during the fest, we envy you.
