Julius Caesar owed his career as much to the entertainment events (gladitorial games) he produced as to his military conquests. His greatest event was the Naumachia a full scale mock naval battle. Future emperors would expand the Naumachia into enormous productions and archaeologists believe the Colloseum was originally built to present Naumachia.—David Foss
