35 years after the horror classic The Amityville Horror and ten years since the 2005 remake starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, Dimension Films are giving one of the original "based on a true story" horror movies another go with next year's Amityville: The Awakening, directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac, P2) and starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan and Bella Thorne.
This will be the 12th film in the series--many of them, including the last two, The Amityville Haunting and The Amityville Asylum, having gone direct-to-dvd--but Dimension Films has released the first trailer for the film via Yahoo! Movies which you can check out below.

One of the key components to a successful horror film is a memorable adversary for the protagonists. Usually the villain is human, or once was. Sometimes the primary opponent is a possessed home, or a revenant that just won’t die. In rare cases, the monster is something a little more… unusual. As evidenced in the list below, we sometimes discover the enemy is more bizarre than we could ever dream: evil objects, demonic playthings, even malevolent pastries... monsters come in many forms. With that said, it’s time to take a walk down memory lane and recall some of the most unconventional monsters in horror cinema history. Here are ten of our favorites: The Vines in The Ruins The Ruins has some genuinely creepy moments, and features a respectable cast and mostly bearable performances. But I could never fully get on board with the concept that the characters are...

When it comes to found footage films, I’ve pretty much run the course. I’ve seen all the triple-a Hollywood titles (Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity) and nearly every straight to DVD wannabe released in the last decade: Bigfoot: The Lost Cost Tapes, Area 407, Grave Encounters 1 and 2, The Amityville Haunting and a dozen more. To put things bluntly, most of them are terrible. It’s the cheapest way to make a horror movie so it makes sense that filmmakers would flock to it and the outcome is handfuls of mediocre, jump scare ridden, terribly written, poorly acted horror movies.
I am happy to say that The Frankenstein Theory does an excellent job at avoiding those downfalls. Now while many of the advertisements you see come tagged with “from the makers of The Last Exorcism,” this is a bit of a stretch. This is Andrew Weiner’s first foray into...

No doubt if you're a fan of the horror genre and in particular interested in true crime history, then you've at some point been fascinated by the "true story" surrounding 'The Amityville Horror.' Hell, that's the reason Hollywood has managed to churn out up to 7 sequels in the franchise, and that doesn't even include the Platinum Dunes remake, the Asylum knock off 'The Amityville Haunting' or the several documentaries on the subject like those excellent History Channel specials. However, you haven't heard the whole story quite yet.
Below you'll find the trailer for IFC Midnight's new documentary from filmmaker Eric Walter 'My Amityville Horror.' For the first time in 35 years, Daniel Lutz recounts his version of the infamous Amityville haunting that terrified his family in 1975. George and Kathy Lutz's story went on to inspire a best-selling novel and the subsequent films have continued to fascinate audiences today.

Thanks to that crazy haunted house house that resides in Amityville, N.Y. we've seen ten films based on the house, and now this latest addition to the Amityville collection that will supposedly be the "first time ever that the true prequel to the Amityville horror will be told.”
Just a little refresher course... Amityville is home to the infamous house in which Ronald DeFeo, Jr. murdered six members of his family in 1974. George Lutz and his family moved into the house a year later. They were forced to move out of the house 28 days later due to a series of terrifying hauntings they encountered. The case became the subject of Jay Anson’s 1977 book The Amityville Horror: A True Story.
This latest project comes from producer Tony DeRosa-Grund, and it will be based on the experiences of two reporters who investigated the incidents for New York TV station Wnew,...

Director: Geoff Meed.
Cast: Devin Clark, Jon Kondelik , Jason Williams, Nadine Crocker, Gracie Largent, and Amy Van Horne.
The entire Amityville House fiasco has been nothing but one huge trial and tribulation. And just when movie producers think they cannot leave a dead horse alone, a new movie has been made about the “most recent” events that have happened on 108 Ocean Avenue.
But to no one’s knowledge and very little national press, the house has changed its look—the building’s iconic face has been redesigned. Also, it has has had several occupants since its days of being haunted. None of them have reported about the house being spooked, and hardly any interest has developed since that last toilet mysteriously flushed (one of the many supposedly paranormal events that allegedly happened). But with this movie, maybe all this product is doing is to keep the most famous case that...

It looks like Asylum beat Dimension Films to the punch and will be releasing the first found footage film on the well known Amityville story. The Amityville Haunting by Asylum is a found footage film and is directed by Geoff Meed, the film, according to Asylum, concerns "actual found footage that documents the horrifying experience of a family that moved into the infamous haunted house. Dimension's film The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes is also a found footage film and is still in production and currently does not have a release date. The Amityville Haunting will be released straight to DVD on December 27, 2011.

The Asylum has come a long way over the years. Its movies have gone from mind-numbingly horrible to watchable to fun. Which camp will The Amityville Haunting most likely fall into? It's kind of hard to predict. Watch the trailer and judge for yourself.
Directed by Geoff Meed and starring Jon Kondelik and Luke Barnett, look for Amityville Haunting on DVD December 13th. In the interim let's all say a little prayer for Foy's sanity, shall we?
The plot is pretty straightforward and simple, but does it really need to be anything other than that?
"Actual found footage that documents the horrifying experiences of a family that moved into the infamous haunted house."
Thanks to DC reader Emma Dunstard for the heads-up.

When the "found footage" angle resurfaced in the horror scene, it was only a matter of time before someone applied it to the Amityville Horror. Then, Dimension Films announced The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes , a "found footage" thriller that was supposed to open in January 2012 before it was pushed. The project - produced by Jason Blum of Paranormal Activity - is still in the development stage. Seizing the opportunity to get to a "found footage" Amityville project first, Asylum went into production on The Amityville Haunting . Directed by Geoff Meed, the film, according to Asylum, concerns "actual found footage that documents the horrifying experience of a family that moved into the infamous haunted house." The Amityville house has sure seen a lot of action over the years and the hauntings never seem to quit. Now, according to The Asylum, we will be treated to yet another installment of Amityville haunts only this time using the tried and true (cheap) method of a found footage film. Geoff Meeds The Amityville Haunting, which stars Jon Kondelik and Luke Barnett, explores what happens when a young family moves into the titular abode. Isn't it great…...

Isn’t the Amityville story kind of played out at this point? Who in their right mind believes that centering another motion picture around the infamous location is a good idea? Apparently the boys and girls over at The Asylum don’t think it sounds too shabby, as the company is preparing to unleash “The Amityville Haunting” this December. Geoff Meed’s “found footage” yarn, which stars Jon Kondelik and Luke Barnett, explores what happens when a young family moves into the titular abode. Good thing they had a camera around to document everything. I’m always thankful for that. “The Amityville Haunting” creeps us out on December 13th, 2011 Source: Dread Central...

The Asylum is back with an entry into the Amityville series, Amityville Haunting, and a warning that the footage contained within the film is Real. Too bad the house on this latest piece of artwork isn't. Ironic, no? Maybe it's real footage from another house? Oh, we give up.

Hey, look! Amityville news! We haven't had much of that lately! This latest bit is for the Geoff Meed directed cinéma vérité style flick, Amityville Haunting. The first casting news is in. Read on for details.
From the Press Release
Luke Barnett (pictured right) has joined the cast of "Amityville Haunting", the latest of the three Amityville-based films currently in development.
Producers are keeping the story under wraps, but we have gotten word that this will be a "found footage" film based on the Benson murders from the early 80's. Production is currently under way in Los Angeles.
Editor's Note
Director Geoff Meed wrote in to let us know that although the characters' names are similar to the Benson murders (which was optioned by the original Amityville filmmakers back in 1986), there is No relation to the actual people or events in his upcoming film. Confusing? Yeah, just a little.
