New Delhi, Nov 24 (Ians) At the moment, Richie Mehta is basking in the glory coming his way, after scooping up the first International Emmy for India with his web series, Delhi Crime. The win is all the more special for the Canadian filmmaker of Indian origin because the series marked his debut on the digital platform.
Mehta, who has tried his hand at short and feature filmmaking, as well as the documentary format, says the win comes in sync with his plan to narrate stories that have a global outlook.
His first feature film "Amal" released in 2007. Set in modernday New Delhi, the film narrates the story of a poor autorickshaw driver named Amal Kumar. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Roshan Seth, and Seema Biswas, and won over 30 international awards, and was nominated for six Genie Awards including Best Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay. Brutal yet sensitively rendered, putting a human face, if a fictional one, on an issue that rarely gets one. Almost Dickens for the 21st century. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for movies about girls and women
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
I have not read the source material
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
A movie based on a young-adult novel about child sex trafficking? Oh dear. But Sold is… Well, it’s not exactly a newsflash that there are children in the world who are sex slaves, nor that there are men in the world who will pay to rape children. Sold is hardly entertaining in the way that we generally mean when we talk about movies. Perhaps the best word to describe this brutal yet sensitively rendered film is enlightening, for putting a human face, if a fictional one, on an issue that rarely gets one.

Indie science fiction with a rare humanism, a scientific and emotional mystery with a solution Hollywood wouldn’t dare go anywhere near. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m a big sci-fi geek
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I needed a really good science fiction flick to wipe away the couple of bad ones I’ve had to endure in the past week or so, and Continuum — aka I’ll Follow You Down in the U.S. and Canada — did the trick beautifully. This is almost the movie that Project Almanac wanted to be — kinda maybe, if it could have broken out of the cheap Hollywood trope in which FX trump emotion — an exploration of the human impact that time-travel could potentially have. There are next to no FX here, and not even any new SFnal ideas. What there is...

Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week
"Phantom of the Paradise"
What's It About? This is a freaky '70s take on "Faust" and "Phantom of the Opera," by way of Brian De Palma. Sure, we know that music producers are evil, but Swan (Paul Williams) really takes the cake.
Why We're In: Shout! Factory's two-disc set has some pretty great goodies for fans of this cult flick.
New on DVD & Blu-ray
"12 O'Clock Boys"
What's It About? Baltimore teens take to the streets on their dirt bikes, and young Pug wants to be one of them. A short but satisfying doc that's part extreme sports action and part personal drama.
In or Out: In.
"Around the Block"
What's It About? Christine Ricci stars as a cool American teacher in Australia who puts on a performance of "Hamlet" with her students. Unfortunately for the play's star, an Aboriginal teen named Liam, his...

Haley Joel Osment can't seem to get away from the supernatural/thriller genre. He's not exactly seeing dead people in "I'll Follow You Down," the second feature film by Richie Mehta, but he's not really seeing anyone alive either. Years after his father has gone missing, Osment's character Erol and his mother (played by Gillian Anderson who finds herself back in the sci-fi world) make a shocking discovery that leads them to think they can get him back. Dad may have disappeared into some sort of wormhole. In this trailer we get a look at Osment, Gillian and a supporting cast including Victor Garber and Rufus Sewell doing their sci-fi thing. "I'll Follow You Down" will be in theaters on August 5. Check out the trailer below. ...

Opening tomorrow, June 6, in limited release is Richie Mehta's time travel drama/thriller, I'll Follow You Down. Mehta's brief CV is quite impressive, starting with Amal back in 2007, and moving on to last year's Siddharth (Todd Brown's top film of 2013). I'll Follow You Down premiered at last year's Fantasia Film Festival where our Kurt Halfyard hemmed and hawed about the film, praising Mehta's writing abilities but somewhat less effusive about his directorial abilities. The good people at Well Go USA have, once again, served us up an exclusive clip to whet the appetite of viewers and readers eager for a new time travel story. Kurt places I'll Follow You Down's story alongside formidable company like Rian Johnson's Looper, and such immortals as Back to...

I'll Follow You Down distinguishes itself from other science-fiction films by focusing on the ethics of time travel. Instead of acting first and thinking as they go, characters take time to consider whether they should go back in time — which turns out to be a problem, since writer-director Richie Mehta's characters aren't especially thoughtful.
Like their creator, they make massive leaps in logic before they do anything. Professor Sal (Victor Garber) tells grandson Erol (Haley Joel Osment) that he and his family are living in a "negative space" alternate timeline created after Erol's dad, Gabe (Rufus Sewell), traveled back to 1946 to talk to Albert Einstein.

Canadian director Richie Mehta is better know for hard hitting dramas than science fiction but every once in a while, one needs a change of pace and from the looks of it, 2013 was the year of change for Mehta.
I'll Follow You Down stars Haley Joel Osment as Erol, a young scientist whose father mysteriously disappeared years ago leaving the Erol alone with his mother (Gillian Anderson). Now grown up, Erol discovers that his father was working on a project that has something to do with wormholes and time travel. At least that appears to be what's going on here; even after a second viewing of the trailer I don't gave a clear grasp of what's going on.

"When you alter gravity, you affect time." -- Albert Einstein At what point will a good story trump a pedestrian production? Richie Mehta the writer is one helluva thing, but Richie Mehta the director, well, he gets the job done, but at times comes dangerously close to breaking what is one of the best time travel screenplays, well, since Looper, anyway. I'll Follow You Down is both literally and thematically a pregnant title for a time travel flick that shows the hubris of the father visited on the son and jeopardizes the happiness and emotional stability of not one, but two, possibly even three families. It dwells on tangent universes, fuzzy mathematics, and keeping the parents together with their children (their very existence), thus merging...

This weekend, in an interview with The Sunday Times, she was very clear that for her, sexuality is not about labels, but about fluidity. But she felt the time was right to talk about being with women because the death of a female lover was on her mind.
"I was talking to Out about gays and choice and the view that you can just choose not to be gay in some way. I decided to talk about it now because someone with whom I was in a relationship a couple of decades ago — a woman...

Like many actors who spend years playing the same character year after year on television, Gillian Anderson hasn't had the best of luck in the time since The X-Files finished its run back in 2002. While certainly a talented actress and worshiped by geeks worldwide, Anderson hasn't had any where near the same kind of exposure in recent years as she had when she was playing Special Agent Dana Scully on the Fox network. That said, she may not be doing that many big projects, but she has been keeping busy, and that continues with I'll Follow You Down, according to Deadline. The site's report says that the actress has landed a part in the science-fiction mystery, which already has Haley Joel Osment, Rufus Sewell and Victor Garber attached. The film is about a scientist named Gabriel (Swell) who goes on a business trip and disappears, leaving his wife (Anderson) and...

Okay, not actually dead. But if you've been searching for Haley Joel Osment in recent years, you might be forgiven for thinking his career was dead given how little he's been doing. Hey, growing up is a full time job.
