Quotes

Al Burns : [bowling with Carrie and some other cops] Ignore them. You're doing great. You can still pick up the spare.
Carrie Wells : Yeah, I know what I'm supposed to do. It's actually doing it that's the problem.
Al Burns : Well, forget the score. You're here to meet friends. You're part of the NYPD family now.
Carrie Wells : Don't rub it in. And by the way, I'm here because a human arm can only be twisted so far before permanent injury.
-
Det. Jim Kelly : So, Carrie, is this guy teaching you the ropes?
Carrie Wells : Yeah, you know, it's not like Syracuse, which he likes to remind me.
Det. Jim Kelly : [teasing] Al Burns, big city cop. Love it.
Al Burns : Yeah, here we go.
Det. Jim Kelly : His, uh, first six months, when he was working Homicide in the 116, I swear, he thinks the BQE is a sandwich.
Al Burns : One time! It was one time!
[Carrie laughs]
Al Burns : Can you believe I put up with this guy as a partner for five years?
-
Mike Costello : There's no way this was random. This was a hit.
Carrie Wells : [remembering the aftermath] Kelly's car lights, they weren't on. That was just a lie to get him out into the parking lot.
Al Burns : Have Roe follow up with the bowling alley. We need to ID the person who phoned it in. How's Moyer?
Carrie Wells : He's still in surgery. We won't be able to talk to him for a few hours.
Mike Costello : I'll run Kelly's case file to see if anybody was recently paroled or had a beef with him.
Al Burns : Maybe he was looking at our shooter for another crime.
Mike Costello : Yeah.
Al Burns : [he moves to leave] Mike. It's the only case we work on 'till I say different.
-
Nina Inara : Plates come back to an address in Yonkers. Owner reported it stolen two days ago.
Al Burns : We getting any prints?
Nina Inara : Nothing of value. Looks like the shooter wiped it down.
Al Burns : Could've been more than one perp.
Nina Inara : Yeah, except CSU found shell casings from only one gun.
Carrie Wells : [remembering the shooting] No, the gunshots and tire screeches were simultaneous. Hard to drive that fast and shoot at the same time. Our shooter, he had a driver.
Al Burns : So we're looking for two killers.
-
Carrie Wells : [finding a box of nachos] These are from the snack bar at the bowling alley, and the receipt says they're from last night.
Nina Inara : If they had that in the car, then...
Al Burns : It means one of our killers came inside.
-
Carrie Wells : Theo Walker, AKA Zippy.
Roe Saunders : What kind of genius comes into a room full of cops right before shooting two of them?
Carrie Wells : Well, it was crowded in there. Maybe he thought he could blend in.
Al Burns : Age 18, took three drug collars in the past two years. He's no rocket scientist.
Roe Saunders : Zippy's name doesn't pop up in any of Kelly or Moyer's cases.
Al Burns : He does street-level hand-to-hand sales. Maybe he's trying to make his bones by shooting a cop.
-
Elaine Margulies : Internal Affairs showed up 45 minutes ago with a search warrant. They're taking Jim's files, his computer.
Al Burns : What the hell?
Carrie Wells : They say why?
Elaine Margulies : Not to me.
-
Al Burns : Mrs. Kelly just lost her husband in the line of duty.
Lt. Willard : I'm aware of that.
Al Burns : But you tossed her house anyway? This how police treat their own?
Lt. Willard : Detective, you wanna cool down?
Carrie Wells : We're investigating Detective Kelly's murder. If the reason Internal Affairs is here affects our investigation, we need to know.
Lt. Willard : The details of my investigation are not available to you at this time.
Carrie Wells : [Willard leaves] They think Kelly was dirty.
-
Mike Costello : LeShawn Doyle. According to Narcotics, LeShawn got to town six years ago. Started with Carlos DeMao up in the Bronx, and now he's *the* major player in Queensbridge. Controls almost all the corners.
Al Burns : [entering] No way LeShawn took over a territory that big without dropping bodies.
Nina Inara : He's suspected in numerous murders, but nobody's been able to make a case stick.
Al Burns : Well, there's gotta be another connection. Guy's not taking out two cops for no reason.
-
Mike Costello : According to the D.A.'s office, Kelly and Moyer were looking at LeShawn for a double homicide six weeks ago. Couple of corner boys got gunned down in Jackson Heights. Well, both victims worked for LeShawn's rivals.
Roe Saunders : Okay, so we're thinking this guy ordered a hit against the cops investigating him.
Mike Costello : Yeah, but here's the thing. Kelly and Moyer collared somebody else for the murders. LeShawn's been cleared.
Al Burns : According to the D.A., he was. Let's go back to the investigation. Let's look at Moyer and Kelly's case files, their interviews, notes. There's gotta be something.
Roe Saunders : Boss, um, Kelly's case files have been restricted.
Al Burns : Okay. We all know IA's been sniffing around Jim Kelly. I say good luck to them. Jim was my friend, and I want the guys that killed him. I'm not scared of IA, I don't give a rat's ass about their investigation. Anyone who does is welcome to leave.
[nobody moves]
Al Burns : Good. There's a connection to LeShawn Doyle. Let's find it.
-
Al Burns : You hear about IA?
Det. Stan Moyer : You know that there's no truth to that.
Al Burns : I know they're wrong, but IA doesn't jam people up for no reason.
-
Det. Stan Moyer : Allegedly, some guys from my squad, they lifted some cash from a scene. The victim was a scumbag. It was a public service homicide.
Al Burns : How much did they take, allegedly?
Det. Stan Moyer : $100, $150. But Kelly had nothing to do with it, Al. He's the most honest cop I ever met. And as soon as I get out of here, I'm gonna kick some ass.
Al Burns : I'll save some for you.
-
Roe Saunders : Well, Zippy won't be rolling over on LeShawn.
Al Burns : Have Ballistics rush the test. That could be the gun that killed Kelly.
Roe Saunders : Wow, they really unloaded on him, huh?
Al Burns : That's what happens when cops find cop killers.
-
Al Burns : [after Carrie rescues him from a dirty cop] How'd you know?
Carrie Wells : Oh, you know, this memory thing of mine comes in handy sometimes.
Al Burns : Kelly deserved better.
Carrie Wells : He had better.
