Race Against Time
corrosion-218 December 2011
Final Whistle tackles a few controversial subjects all crammed into one film. Niki Karimi plays a documentary film maker, who in order to make ends meet, also makes commercial TV series. With the money from these commercial projects, she & her husband, a commercial film maker, have managed to put a deposit on their dream house.

During the course of her latest project she learns that her leading actress is planning to sell one of her kidneys. This, she learns, is to collect enough money to rescue her mother from being hanged. She has been found guilty of murdering her daughter's step father as he was about to rape her. The money is needed for pay "Dieh" which is money you pay to the victim's family in order to compensate them & obtain their agreement to forgo the execution (required by Islamic Sharia's "An Eye for An Eye" law).

Niki Karimi's character becomes heavily involved with her case, even going as far as trying to get the deposit back on their dream house, much to the chagrin of her husband. She even gets help from well known movie stars and sport celebrities (playing themselves in the film) to meet with, or send messages, to the victim's family & beg for forgiveness.

The film is called Final Whistle because it is set during the 2010 Soccer World Cup and the film's ending coincides with the final of the World Cup.

Final Whistle is realistically acted and competently directed with a few memorable scenes. It is quite unsettling at times but that is probably exactly what the director had in her mind.
