When Chickie is torturing Ripple, he heats a branding iron to glowing red using just a burning newspaper. A small paper fire wouldn't generate nearly enough heat to accomplish this. It would require several minutes with a blow torch or gas flame.
END OF EPISODE SPOILERS:
Even after pushing Waltrip into a plaque on the wall and impaling his neck on the animal horn attached to it, Dwight still feels the need to shoot him.
He holds his gun up to Waltrip's neck, and before pulling the trigger (around 27:10), Dwight covers his own eyes and face with the back of his hand/arm to block the blood and brain splatter.
After he shoots Waltrip, blood splatter is shown on Dwight's face everywhere except for where his hand/arm protected him from it, and where the inside of his hand and arm should be covered with blood, there is absolutely nothing; it's completely clean.
