A charming adaptation
This movie is an adaptation of.a Norwegian children's book classic by the same name from the 1950s. It covers the exploits of three robbers who live outside the law and confines of Cardamom Town, the story's main location.

The story, characters and setting are all feelgood and wholesome, so outside of the movie's climax involving a fire, parents need not worry about the movie being scary or overstimulating.

What they can expect is a charming romp with songs and comedy that parents that adults can also enjoy. The movie is a mix of stopmotion and CGI and deserves great credit for mixing them together. The film was made during the 2020 pandemic and they really did innovate in their creative/technical techniques in ways I'm sure took great effort.

It's good. It's solid.

Charming, yet there and not...

Grew up with the LP my grandma had & the book was often checked out at the library. Even visited kristiansand dyrepark in 1999 where a replica of the city is located.

I am not that satisfied or impressed. If you listen to the book on LP or streaming & then watch the movie then you can clearly pick what they didnt put in the movie out.

But the movie does deliver on the entertaining part thats for sure...

Thorbjoern egner was part of my childhood. To me it has to match the book letter by letter.

If their next plan is karius & baktus then i will wonder how they can make 30 minutes into 1.5 hours...
