- World renowned artist, Max Ingrand, created a "glass forest" with eight depictions of the Blessed Mother. To explain the meaning of this art work, St. Mary of the Woods Roman Catholic Church, invited an array of guest speakers to present an in-depth look at Ingrand's artwork.
- In the mid-1960s, St. Mary of the Woods Roman Catholic Church in Chicago, underwent a major renovations. During the process, one of the architects befriended renowned French stained glass artist, Max Ingrand. By that time, Ingrand had amassed an incredible résumé that included the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, the Strasbourg Cathedral, the Pontoise Cathedral, the Beauvais Cathedral, and the Münster Cathedral. Despite the smaller parish not having the prestige of the famous churches that Ingrand had worked on, he agreed to take on the job.
What Ingrand created for St. Mary of the "Woods" were two floor-to-ceiling stained glass walls of "forest," that cover the southeast & southwest interior façade. Multi-colored trees, leaves, vines and birds create the template, yet scattered throughout the "woods" are eight depictions of the Blessed Mother. Each image represents a different spiritual devotion to Mary as practiced by Catholics over the centuries and different parts of the world. Two paintings: Our Lady of Czestochowa and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Four apparitions: Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Knock, and Our Lady of Lourdes. Two spiritual devotions: Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Sorrows.
"The Marian Stained Glass Windows" is an eight part mini-series presented by authorities on the subject from the Chicagoland area. The speakers include Bishop Mark Bartosic, Father Frank Falco, Father Charles Fanelli, Sister Charbel Joseph, Olivia Murray, Peter Scheidler, Jim Sweany, Fr. Przemek Tomaczyk and Fr. Wayne Watts.
