A strong start for season 2!
mm-3925 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A strong start for season two. Different story, and characters, but same actors. The story line is set inside an asylum, which is scary. Strong characters, a mean nun, famous killer, reporter etc who are interesting, hated, loved. The characters have a right mix for good mechanics for plot devices for season 2. Interesting watching actors for season 2 playing different roles, in a different time period. The story goes to present also! Many questions are asked in the Welcome to Briarcliff episode which keeps the viewer wanting to know more. Each character has their own personal story which keeps the story line interesting. I give Welcome to Briarcliff an eight out of ten.

very good storyline and acting

Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 is the second best season I have binge watched so far in the AHS series (I've watched 1,2,3,5). I was quite intrigued by the sophisticated development of the storyline, the rich construction of characters, and of course the fantastic performance of actors and actresses, especially Jessica Lange. Sister Judy is a complicated character that makes me first hate, and then pity, and then respect. She is dedicated to her mission despite the obstacles.

Plot wise, I didn't really enjoy the horrific human experiments conducted by Doctor Arthur, which is too graphic to my tasting. I did quite like the part where Kit rescued Sister Judy from the asylum and Sister Judy got to spend some good time with Kit's two lovely kids.

Let's have more quality productions like AHS!

Best AHS Season to date
marcelinebreaux4 August 2022
I watched this season from start to finish when it first premiered nearly 10 years ago(I was 15 y/o). I recently binge watched it over the weekend with a more mature perspective, and hands down it is the best season of AHS to date. The acting, the storyline, the intensity of the whole thing - everything is just too good. If you're going to start watching AHS, I would start with season 2.

A great premiere to a great season
MomentIMDB7 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
American horror Story Asylum is one of the best seasons, and this premiere is very good. first class shows us what the season will be like, giving a great glimpse of the characters, plot, direction, aesthetics, storyline. And this episode is excellent in all of these aspects in addition to the great performances, especially Jesicca lange. The first minutes are very good, already showing the asylum and its aesthetics, very terrifying. Not only that is why it is interesting, but the plot of the couple will be developed throughout the season and will have importance in the end. The general plot of the episode is that kit walker murdered three women and must wait in the asylum until she is sentenced and in the other part Lana Winters wants to find out what happens in the place. And the truth is very interesting, leaving doubts and emotion about what will happen. All the characters are very interesting, all very well characterized and the chemistry is great. Lana winters being iconic. The soundtrack is very good, it accompanies the environment of the asylum and in addition to the song Dominique. The impeccable steering and a good assembly. In general great start to the season and if I have to leave a negative aspect, it is that the presentation of the characters can be somewhat confusing, but it is still great.

Season 2 - Asylum
Bored_Dragon23 October 2023
"Mental illness is the fashionable explanation for sin"

The cast from the first season (Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe), supported by some new faces (Joseph Fiennes, Lizzie Brocheré, James Cromwell), returns to us in a new story, with new, no less impressive characters.

This time the story is set in the sixties of the last century, in a notorious mental institution, under the administration of the Catholic church. The patients range from completely insane criminals, through severe mental illness, to people who don't belong there at all. The story follows a young man accused of massacring several women and a journalist who wants to write a first-hand story about him at all costs.

In my opinion, the series is still more of a psychological drama and thriller than horror, but in the second season there are more horror elements, and there is also a bit of SF. "Asylum" has all the qualities of the first season, and the finale, although in a similar manner, was done much better. However, the second season left a slightly weaker overall impression on me.

8,5/10.

S2.E1 - Nice Episode to Start the Season [8/10]
panagiotis199311 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S2. E1) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 2 Episode 1 ''Welcome to Briarcliff''. The previous season was good and I gave it a rating of 8.5/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Nice to see Evan Peters, Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe and Sarah Paulson again in this season. What was that bright light? Aliens? Kit is bloody face? And Lana says he killed three women? Interesting. Kit says he didn't kill any women but is he telling the truth? Does this doctor kill the patients? This doctor is doing illegal experiments on the patients, he is a creep. Overall this episode was good, my rating is 8/10.

Shaky Cam! Why??
DingelBerry11 June 2022
Why are these directors still using this annoying and horrible fad of shaking the frames in the picture? I cannot stand it, makes me not want to watch, I was so distracted I couldn't get into it.

Okay
rupertwalker2 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The immediate expositions and weak 'titillation' charged by sex-talk really pulled away from what could otherwise be an atmospheric and chilling opening episode. "You can totally put it in my a** right now." Hmm. Need I say more?

It's massively condescending to the audience and relies on forcing arousal in viewers to gauge an emotional reaction. The opening credits couldn't come sooner.

The scenery was great but ruined by the cut-and-paste actors. This of course improves later but didn't take away the distinct knowledge I was watching a show, rather than being absorbed in to a created world.
