Feel good killing
aravindnandakumar22 May 2023
I dont understand the reason why this much feel good movies are comming out of malayalam movie industry. When the movie starts itself and movie out of 30 min itself we can understand what is going to happen in the next 2 hrs.

Please come out from this ... Feel good is not feeling good any more .

Same pattern same character sketchws pf previous movies . Vineeth sreenovasan , Basil joseph , etc all had same roles for the past 10 movies .

There are some new actors in this movie they were good , but still - The whole point of watching a movie is that getting something new .There is nothing new in this.

A good film, but could've been a great film
apamaljoeabraham6 June 2023
The first time I watched the movie, after about 20 minutes I couldn't continue watching it. It felt like a rush. So many characters being introduced, so many lame jokes. The movie is shot and edited in a unique way. I'm not sure whether I like it or not. There are so many beautiful shots in this movie - like where they move the bed of the lead character, but at the same time some shots look like its from an advert.

I decided to give it a second chance because of amazing reviews from other people. The second part is where everything happens and story gets interesting. The story is very relevant in this day and age. There are still some unnecessary scenes in second half too, but much better. The make-up artist deserves a National Award or something. Even in close up scenes the makeup looked so perfect. Vijayarakhavan's and Leela's performances were commendable.

Feel good
Revieweraz29 March 2024
This movie was a comfort movie, the acting was great on most of the part. The 2 main characters the grandma and the grandpa did really good. The story and the aesthetic was beautiful, and made viewers feel at home. I could only give this film a 7 because it was average with the way the dialogues were written. Especially for the granddaughter who made every scene cringe with the way she spoke and acted. Maybe she would have done better if she had better lines, but other than that actors like Arun Kurian did a great job. I only wished there would be more back story to what happened and how some of the characters ended up the way they did. Overall this movie was calm but just long on other parts while still being funny occasionally. I could say you could watch it once and not get bored of it.

Excellent Craft

Pookkalam is a movie that is all about the intricate relationships and bonds within a family. It has very beautifully portrayed old age love, through the role of Ittoop and Ichaama played by Vijayaraghavan and KPAC Leela. The make up Ronex Xavier demands special recognition, without which the characters wouldn't have been this authentic. The DOP by Anand C Chandran is immaculate and Midhun Murali's editing is seamless. The other major characters are played by Vineeth Sreenivasan,Basil Joseph and Johny antony. They have performed such hilarious performances. It was really nice to see Abu Salim in such a different character. The role of his wife, done by Ganga meera was also nice. Annu antony and Arun Kumar extended vibrancy and energy to their characters. All the newcomers did a commendable job. Jagadeesh also acted in a very notable role. The music by Sachin Warrier is another highlight of the movie. The colour grading by Bilal Rashid is on point ,I need to say! The visuals perfectly encapsulated the emotions of the movie. All in all brilliant execution by Ganesh Raj,the writer come director. Congratulation to Vinod shornur and Thomas thiruvalla for producing such a sweet movie. Rafi Kannadiparba needs to be appreciated for his brilliant costume sense, all the colour's selected were so soothing to eyes. The lyrics by Kaithapram and rafeeq Ahmed conveyed a lot. Cheers to entire team .

Combination of fun and facts of life. Amazing actors.

Feel good factor movie. Award winning performances by Vijayaraghavan, KPAC Leela. Super performance by Basil and Vineeth.

Ganesh Raj made life a celebration movie, though serious life realities are handled wonderfully. Laughed a lot with so many humerous situations and sat glued until the end with turn of events which are knitted well.

Humer, excitement, suspense, realities and handling such a story of 90+ is not common in infian cinemas. But Ganesh gave full justice to the story line, ditection and beautiful photography. One of the rare such movies ever watched.

Hats off to the Team Pookkalam!

Simply fantabulous!
ngandacinema20 May 2023
Fantastic is an understatement to describe this movie and there's sooo much to say😃

-Vijayaraghavan sublimed the role by giving it a new definition. If it were an actual older actor, we wouldn't have to expect anything, but because it was Vijayaraghavan, it was exciting to see what he would bring to the table.

His walk, his talk, and mannerisms solidified his performance all the way. He really lived like an older person

-The plot was original as it centered on older people and addressed an extremely sensitive issue. So while watching, we were putting ourselves in Ichoy's and Ichamma's shoes, trying to figure out what we would do.

The movie also highlighted something important, it's not because older people have come to an advanced age that they no longer have rights, their needs should never be suppressed even if they only have few days to live.

-the screenplay was excessively rich in characters, it even put a spotlight on a dog & a cow friendship😆 Basil Joseph & Vineeth Sreenivasan intensified the humor with their awkward love-hate relationship. Ichoy's family was realistically structured with a daughter suffering from Alzeimer and a lost son

-What can we say about the direction and the cinematography? Ganesh didn't waste time, about 15min into the film, the climax was already ignited, and the fact that new faces were gradually added along the scenario, it made the story even more interesting

Anend C Chandran's attention to the littlest details and even the sound. Wow! We loved him in Bheesma Parvam and we love him in Pookkaalam.

POOKKAALAM
syam_satya21 May 2023
Pookalam is a beautifully crafted movie. It takes the audience with its flow through its beautiful script , outstanding performance of the cast and a good morale story line which is carefully treaded. The movie takes you through a ride of emotions and absorbs you into their family. Kudos to all the actors their performance was top notch. The performance given by vijayaraghavn and KPAC Leela was outstanding and i am sure they will get the Highest honours. Enchanting and heartwarming feel-good movie that beautifully captures the essence of bonds, emotions, and happiness. Overall, "Pookkaalam" is an absolute gem of a movie that will warm your heart, make you laugh, and leave you with a renewed sense of optimism. It is a must-watch for anyone in need of an uplifting and emotionally rewarding cinematic experience.

Cheating is normalized

Warning: Spoilers
I feel movie is made to say that cheating is fine. In the hope of becoming progressive, people are teaching to loose ethics and morals.

Felt bad for main character, the main character's wife could have divorced him before starting an affair or could have disclosed to him after living with him for several years. Not convinced with that point

Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are strong. The plot is flawed and pointless.

All the characters have done there best in terms of acting, music, and cinematography.

Basil & vineeth are very funny, vijayraghavan sir has done great job.

One rating for the flawed and biased storyline. Anyways i might be wrong or correct. Do watch the movie and decide.

Enjoyable family entertainer.
rafeel-7300422 May 2023
Pookkaalam is a heartwarming film directed by Ganesh Raj. It revolves around Ittoop, a nonagenarian man portrayed by Vijayaraghavan, who discovers that his entire life has been built on lies. This revelation deeply affects his relationship with his wife, Kochuthresia, played by KPAC Leela. The movie takes place during a betrothal function, creating a lively atmosphere with amusing interactions and joyful chaos.

The cast includes notable actors such as Basil Joseph, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Arun Kurian, and Annu Antony, who add depth to the story. Pookkaalam explores themes of family, secrets, and the impact of past events on relationships. It beautifully balances serious and comedic elements, making it a heartfelt and enjoyable family entertainer.

A must watch, feel good, acting oriented film
sujiparathattil21 June 2023
I am sharing my experience.

I saw a youtube short video, which Actor vijayaraghavan dubbing clip...It was really touching

Coming to film; Casting was exceptional. Especially Vijayaraghavan,KAPSC Leela. Both deserve award for their acting... Simple story, but have a strong ground for family feelings.. Hatsoff to director. Had great stuff. He really deserves a big salute, in certain emotional scenes, he really controlled the actors not to go beyond the expression.

Both Vijayaraghavan & Leela, their body language (as old age people) was awsome in all scenes.

I think there was one song in this film.....but we didn't find that song anywhere

Actually its a very good film.....highly recommended for all film lovers.

Playing it safe and feel-good, as expected! [+53%]
arungeorge1320 May 2023
Ganesh Raj, who hails from the Vineeth Sreenivasan school of filmmaking, tackles the subject of infidelity in a long-standing marriage. As such, the protagonists here is a couple in their late 90s, played by Vijayaraghavan and KPAC Leela - both delivering very nuanced performances. While I like the beginning of the film that establishes their casual camaraderie and the end portion (though corny, still gets you to smile and shed a happy tear), the mid section had me caring a lot less. This is mainly because we're subjected to a host of characters playing various family members, but none with any distinct, remarkable traits (except acting like clowns). There's two sets of twins, a woman who's about to get married (for whatever stupid reasons she says), her brother who's only aim is to live up to his name (Guinness), and enter the famed book of records, and a few others who are basically "just there". The subplot, involving the marriage and changing decisions, exist because the central conflict lacks the strength to keep us invested.

When the film shows a 50-year-old infidelity story as something that excites the community the family lives in, I was literally rolling my eyes. School-kids discussing their great grandmother's affair? Okay then. The film did not even bother to explore it all the way either. I expected things to get more twisted but Ganesh Raj plays it safe. His inclination towards feel-good elements robs us of the chance to make the film one of the better written (and performed) films about nonagenarians. For some reason, M. T Vasudevan Nair's Oru Cheru Punchiri suddenly came to mind, in bits and pieces. The supporting cast does an okay job here, with Basil Joseph and Vineeth Sreenivasan towering over the rest because they're just fun to watch together. I'll also give credit to the make-up department for making the lead couple look how they're supposed to.
