Love the show, hate the background score
shobhasri21 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show and what I especially love about it are these things:

  • no male-male/female drama going on, no drama at all from any of the humans (praise the Lord!) the persona is not running the show, the show is about rehabbing period houses, the houses are the protagonists, and their personalities come through as the rehab progresses

  • Nicole does hands-on work, and all sorts of work on the sites. She's not calling in to give instructions or snap at the crew, or drop in to supervise and scream at the crew as in so many other shows (Flipping Boston - at least the episode I saw, Colin and Justin's Home Heist during the later shows was the worst in this respect)

  • there is reusing, re-purposing, restoring, bring things back to life in period properties; don't mistake me, I love an update of tired old spaces and I do prefer modern and sleek to keeping it slightly dysfunctional to keep with the period, but this show is refreshing from all the other blah modernization shows

Word of advice: Change the awful background music, I watch this show almost always on mute to avoid the clanging background score, which is worse than a real construction site noise.

Amazing show! Nicole Curtis is very inspiring!

It is so refreshing to see a DIY show where respect is paid to old materials. Rather than sledgehammer perfectly good, well-made materials, Nicole takes the time and puts in the effort to breathe new life into old materials, restoring them to their former glory!

This show is particularly empowering for girls and young women to watch, because Nicole isn't afraid to do anything. She is a great role-model and I hope this show empowers more people to take the time to restore old materials. She respects the pieces for what they are, and with the extra elbow grease, proves that a well-taken care of home with its original charm can shine.

I really hope this show stays around for a long time: it's informative, entertaining, and inspiring!

Our new motto: "old houses, old people, and old dogs"!!!
WorthlessKnowledge30 October 2014
This is EVERYTHING that a housing-rehab show should be about: saving wonderful old homes from the wrecking ball & bringing them back to life. It's very relevant during these times of urban renewal and the vital re- use of older materials. The rehab of old homes is a 'movement' that should never end.

And what's not to love here??? Nicole Curtis {honestly} shows us the pains & hassles of old home rehab as she goes thru the process. And then, along with her, we get to experience the gratification of bringing a classic back to it's former glory, becoming livable again, and ending up even more being even wonderful than before. For those of us who LOVE (like Nicole wears a shirt that says this): "old houses, old people, and old dogs" . . . It's a wonderful, enjoyable show!

And THANK YOU Nicole for not muddling up this series with quasi-political issues (such as gay rights) so constantly "featured" on many other shows. As important as equality and personal rights are, craft and cooking shows (on HGTV and the Food Network) are just NOT the place for it - it's become SO boring to see that repeatedly forced upon the viewers.

As for Nicole Curtis, we love her fierce independent spirit and amazing work ethic. She is the real deal - and a total doll!

Great show you can watch with the whole family.

This is a great show without drama. She works and gets her hands dirty. I put these shows on while I'm working on my house. It really motivates me to work on the projects for my house. I enjoy watching this show because I can watch it with my whole family and its family friendly. No swear words. Thank you Nicole!!

What I like about her programme is she respects the original architects' footprint.

Love the concept but . . .

Sorry, I can only take about 15 minutes of Nicole's voice before I have to switch it off. Love what she's doing but it's pretty tough to get into a show watching only 15 minutes at a time. I pretty much just stopped after about 3 episodes.
