She can't stand the man or his solicitor, Micky Joy, and if anything feels intimidated and bullied by the gangster who makes it clear what verdict he expects. Her defense is that Farr is being set up by the police but when she catches Micky paying off her clerk Billy Lamb to get him to provide Farr with an alibi, she realizes there is a different approach she can take.
