A very informative PSA on COVID-19
Rodrigo_Amaro22 June 2022
To each era its plague and to each as well comes the PSA's warnings about the importance we must have when it comes to new deadly diseases. This Brit PSA about COVID-19 released on the early days of the pandemic makes us remind of the frighteninig ads released in the late 1980's about AIDS where veteran actor John Hurt narrated about the disease with an haunting voice ("Iceberg" and "Monolith" both were directed by Nicolas Roeg). This one has Hurt's co-star in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" the great Mark Strong but his voice can only be heard during the introduction of the video and at its conclusion.

Instead of metaphorical images about how COVID acts among ourselves like the AIDS ads had, we have as main star NHS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chris Witty and his words of warning about how the disease acts in our body and ways of prevention - this was during the lockdown phase. So it's basically simple instructions in how to deal with symptoms, signs and when to act if feeling sick. Bascially, it's destined to raise awareness among the public in an era where much about COVID was discredited by denialists and others who made less of the new thing in town. It happened all over the world.

Here's an informative piece, very brief yet detailed and I believe it was very helpful in providing information to the public in a nice manner. It doesn't have the same depressive effect those AIDS commercials had since I guess today's public, despite unfounded hopes and fears, we tend to make our own research and try to get aware of things before panic strikes. It's not like that time when we all depended on television. And it's not the real intention of governments and public health organizations in creating despair and panic on people. It's a very positive thing and Mr. Witty explains things as they should, in a quiet, reserved manner and without raising an excessive red alert on people. He really got our attention as did Mr. Strong who narrates the introduction and conclusion of the ad. 8/10.
