Episode 1 was certainly a masterpiece , but this one was a step down in my opinion. The pacing was much different as this was surprisingly a 2 part episode instead withs strange premise that just made me feel uncomfortable a lot of the time. I get that that is the point, but I didn't resonate with it being profound like episode 1. A little disappointed here but I'll definitely stick around for the series because of how good the first one was.
The first ep had me in splits but this one i just didn't have that. Maybe it was because they had to follow so many rules wrt the babies and children, or the scion plot just wasn't that interesting or maybe it was just cut too short and abruptly.. but overall it was a big dive from ep 1 which really set the bar super high.
I literally had to pause it every few minutes because I couldn't take how awkward it was.. which I understand it was the point. I hope the HBO executives know this was money well spent. Well done Nathan.
Never thought I would enjoy watching 2 horrible people (Angela and the dude) for 30 minutes. Well done ! I would like to see more of Nathan interacting with participants and the missing pieces (like the fight btw the guy and his roommate) would help.
I remember when I first tuned in to the first episode, I was surprised that the music was so dramatic, even melancholy at times. I felt it would be funnier if there was no music at all, maybe. Watching this episode, which I don't recall any comedic moments from at all, made me realize that perhaps this show is actually aiming for something more profound than comedy. While I have a slight hope in how that would turn out, I found the direction to be, although uniquely dramatic, somewhat dull. Like I said, there was less focus on Nathan and almost zero comedic moments. The machinations and ridiculous meta situations that Nathan tends to get the participants into are also missing here. It's fairly straightforward. I think the problem may come from the fact that this is apparently part one of the whole story. It would have been better if they removed the whole Scion subplot considering it led nowhere and focused on the comedy of the entire toddler-teen-adult journey instead.
