Tubi original slasher - getting it right !
freesquire22 October 2022
Thumbs up to Tubi for getting it done right. No frills straight up slasher that would have went over well back in the golden era (78-83). No wasted effort of trying to "do something different" which ruins most modern horror/thriller/murder mystery movies.

Enough blood spilled and gore to separate it from a Lifetime movie or micro budget slasher on Prime or YouTube.

Keep them coming Tubi, you've found the formula that fans of the genre want: Don't reinvent the wheel, just do it right. The formula never gets old it just needs a good script, a good cast and good production.

Well done, slasher fans new and old alike can tune in and be entertained.

Tubi should anchor in and own the genre now.

The Final Rose
BandSAboutMovies18 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jess (Christina Masterson) is a single mother who has been picked to be a contestant on Love at Last, which is The Bachlor. Meanwhile, a disco ball-masked killer is taking out all of the other contestants.

Directed by Tim Cruz - who wrote it with Blake Rutledge - The Final Rose does a fun job of taking the expected reality show moments and infusing the spirit of the slasher within them. It also has smart casting, featuring actors from The Young and the Restless, General Hospital and One Life to Live.

I'm not the biggest fan of reality romance, but I see the potential for jealous contestants to become a murderous place where a stalk and slash killer can have his or her way with the contestants. This is totally the kind of movie that could play on Lifetime years ago. The writing is quite good, way better than a made for streaming movie should be, skewering everything in its way.

WORST MOVIE EVER!!!
zoidcite31 October 2022
Don't waste your time watching this garbage! And the reviews obviously are coming from the creators. It was a complete waste of time and I feel sorry for the studio that wasted their money creating this 💩 show of a low budget horror film. The lead actress was terrible and annoying! The script was just stupid 🙄 plot was beyond predictable! The kill scenes were weak! I'd seen scarier 💩 on nickelodeon are you afraid of the dark! The just how awful this movie is ..... Tubi usually have better movie than this dog💩 of a film! There no more words but I have to warn people not to watch this garbage. Unfortunately I have fill out this review with six hundred characters in order to submit my review.

A generally solid slasher with more going for it than expected

Selected to join a reality dating show, a single mother who was reluctantly approved to appear arrives with the other hopefuls and begins to go through the rigors of the program, but as she suspects something is wrong with the disappearing contestants' true nature puts the shoot in jeopardy.

This one proved far better than it should've been. One of the finer features here is the enjoyable sendup of reality shows that take place here which gives this one a strong starting point. From the slap-dash manner of how the show is put together including her being selected at random, a nice bit about the previous history of the show with this being the next chapter in their success, the catty nature of the majority of the women there contrasting with her more reserved maternal side for plenty of drama to conflict with even before the actual competitions on the tapings start. Going even further into the realm of mockery with the characters notably putting on a show for the cameras by behaving differently under the suggestion of creating drama simply completes the picture which gives this a lot to like. That gives the film a decent start to the sudden influx of ambush sequences with the killer knocking them off. Relying more on the suddenness of him coming up out of the shadows to strike someone who's not expecting anything in the slightest to happen, these are quite shocking when they occur leading to some brutal moments as they get knocked off. Considering the victim is usually isolated and the entire event can be written off in a way to explain the disappearance, there's a burgeoning mystery that develops here as she slowly comes to believe something is wrong as the constant hints about their true state only serve to enhance this idea. It all comes together in the final half where it sets up the confrontation with the killer once they realize the dead bodies popping up around the shoot that finally gives this a decent stalking scene with the chase to stop the killer. Alongside some decent enough gore for the kills, these are the film's positives although there are several factors that bring this one down. One of the biggest drawbacks is the highly underwhelming pacing that has quite a lot of downtime here focusing on the aspects of the reality show that aren't too appealing for genre fans. Those expecting more overt stalking scenes or encounters with the killer will be disappointed to find them integrated rather awkwardly into the film at these random spots to remind us it's a genre fare. That's due to the film spending so long in making sure the reality show is the central part here which is to the detriment of the slashing as that gets shuffled aside to these brief sections. The final part here that holds this one down is the lackluster killer reveal and motivation which is so underwhelming it's hard to buy into which all combine together to bring this down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

Picked this at random on Tubi.

Actual score 6/10.

Grading on a curve because we expected it to be absolutely awful... It's a 10/10 as far as Tubi Originals go. Although Titanic 666 was pretty fun.

But this is a decent film. The acting is better than you'd expect. The main character is likeable. The behind the scenes reality show drama is realistic. The kills are mostly off screen but the different characters bring this to life.

This could honestly play every Halloween on Lifetime and fit right in. There's moments of comedy. It's not that scary. Not at all. But it's a fun and decent slasher better and smarter than you think it will be.
