Grandma is a nightmare!
planktonrules26 May 2015
"Grandma's Child" is not a particularly well made comedy short. It has tons of logical holes but still, somehow, manages to elicit a few laughs.

When the story begins, you learn that a young couple has lied to mother--telling them they had a baby when, in fact, they haven't. When the old lady comes to town you realize she's NOT the sort you lie to, as she's an insane amazon who wouldn't think twice about beating the tar out of them! So, they both try to solve the problem--and end up stealing children to pass off as their own! Surely the plot is contrived when they resort of kidnapping kids-- and the film is sure illogical! But, the ending, though not exactly enlightened, is funny. All in all, an uneven and strange silent comedy. Not terrible but passable entertainment only.

Silent Mother-In-Law Sitcom

Bobby Ray is the young married with an overbearing Mother-in-Law with superhuman strength. If he doesn't come up with GRANDMA'S CHILD, will Grandma beat him within an inch of his life?

This is more a situation comedy than a slapstick knockabout, which sort of means it probably would have been better if it was a talkie. It gets to a slow start, has too many title cards, and saves its better ones for the end. (OK, there is some ripping off from Charlie Chase in those gags, but they are funny.) But it is not a total waste of time, and the silent comedy enthusiast might like this. At the very least, this comedy takes to the streets of LA, and there are some nice looks at a middle class arts and crafts neighborhood.
