The 'W Series' was a support racing series to the 'DTM' (German Touring Car series), but is now a support series for the 'Formula One World Championship'.
'Hitech GP' announced in late 2020 that they would discontinue their involvement the 'W Series' for 2021 as they moved into new series, and 'Fine Moments' took over their role for the 2021 season. All cars were operated by 'Fine Moments', and 'teams' were purely for sponsorship and identification purposes.
This first race of the year was meant to be held at the 'Circuit Paul Ricard' at Le Castellet, near Marseille, (France). Because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, this event was cancelled and 2 races at The 'Red Bull Ring' were held over successive weekends.
To promote close, fair competition and an authentic 'Championship' feel, 'W Series' awards points for the races as follows: Each Race : 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 (1st - 10th) & 1 point for fastest lap. This is the same as the 'Formula 1' points scoring system.
With Thanks to the eSports community of iRacing, Beyond Entertainment, Logitech, Luke Crane (and many more), they helped keep the 'W Series' momentum going, whilst Motor-racing was halted during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020.
