- Peter and the Fringe team take extraordinary measures in an attempt to stop life-threatening events.
- Olivia and Nina Sharp are prisoner in an abandoned facility by David Robert Jones. He tortures Nina to force Olivia to use her abilities to activate the lights in a box. However Olivia tells that she is tired and he leaves Nina with her. Olivia confesses to her that only Peter would be emotionally connected to her to activate her ability. However Nina is from the parallel universe and is partner of David. Meanwhile Peter is contacted by September that is wounded on the chest and almost dying. Peter decides to enter in his mind to find the location of Olivia, and he learns who The Observers are. He also tells to Peter to go home and they are coming. When Peter understand the meaning of the message, he is abducted by David's men.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Peter and Lincoln look through Olivia's apartment. Peter thinks she was being dosed when she was alone. Lincoln says Nina is in FBI custody and not talking. Lincoln tells Peter that projecting his Olivia on to this one is wrong and he's putting her in danger.
Peter finds a camera in her fire detector and takes out the memory card. It only stores in 60 minute loops, but he thinks he and Walter can work on it. If they fail, Lincoln will have to get Nina talking.
Meanwhile, Nina is also in a dingy room with Olivia, strapped to a chair. Nina tells Olivia she was grabbed weeks ago so the Nina who checked on her and made her soup, wasn't Nina. She doesn't know what they want from her.
David Robert Jones walks in with another man. Olivia knows him from Peter's timeline, when he got cut in half by the closing portal. The man wonders if the mixed memories could be a side effect. Her migraines could be another side effect.
He tells her Walter's notes on her Cortexaphan trials were very clear that an emotional response provokes her abilities. He takes out a drill, peels open Nina's robotic arm and starts drilling. She screams and Olivia begs him to stop.
Boston, Mass. Four Observers meet, they want to know where September (Michael Cerveris) is and why he didn't follow orders to erase all memories of Peter. September has continually intervened to save Peter and when he surfaces, he'll have to face the consequences.
Broyles visits Nina in interrogation. She asks about Olivia then tries to convince Broyles she had nothing to do with dosing Olivia. She's insistent and says she should be coordinating with Massive Dynamic on the search.
Lincoln brings Broyles a file. The biometric log shows she accessed the storage facility twice in the last few months, but she says she hasn't been there in years. They have witnesses who saw her. She suggests it could be a shape shifter, but Broyles points out if it was a shape shifter, she'd be dead.
She sees that they're sure she's involved and asks for her lawyer.
In the lab, Walter makes buttered bread with sprinkles. Peter looks over the memory on the card, hoping to find old footage. Walter blames Peter. Using a machine to look at the card, Peter starts to peel back layers and see old footage of Olivia.
Back in the dingry room, the men take Nina away. DRJ is carrying a red box and tells Olivia all creatures need an incentive to perform tasks.
He turns Olivia around and she can see Nina being strapped to a bed frame in another room. DRJ takes out a wooden box with small light bulbs, the same one he wanted her to turn on with her mind before. He tells her her powers are greater than she thinks. From the other room, Nina yells at Olivia not to do what he says.
They shock Nina in the other room, trying to prod Olivia. She tries, but can't. They shock Nina again and she tries again. Olivia says she's tired and just needs to rest. He puts the box away and says they'll try again.
Watching the really grainy footage, Peter finds a person peering into the camera, a man. They want to run the man through facial recognition.
Peter can't figure out why Nina would want to dose Olivia, but remembers that in his timeline, DRJ is the one who tried to do that to her, to "activate" her.
Suddenly, September appears out of nowhere, with the same bleeding wound in his chest that Olivia saw when he visited her in the opera house.
September tells Peter that DRJ's "goal is the same", then he collapses. He tells Peter that Olivia needs him.
They put September on a table and find there's no exit wound for the bullet. His lung is collapsed. Lincoln calls Peter to tell him they're running the image through facial recognition and Nina isn't talking.
Back in captivity, Nina doesn't blame Olivia and tells her again not to give DRJ what she wants. Olivia tells Nina she needs her help to "activate" her. Olivia explains that because of the Cortexaphan, Olivia can't remember everything about Nina. Without that connection, DRJ's torture won't work. Nina tells her the story of the day she and her sister came to live with her. Olivia can only remember pieces, she says it's like looking in a photo album of somebody else's life.
Olivia says it's not going to work, it's only ever worked with Peter.
Nina grabs her stomach and screams out in pain. Olivia summons her captors and tells them if she dies, their leverage dies.
They put Nina on a gurney and wheel her into the hall. When she's out of sight of Olivia, Nina pops up, fine. It's an act. She tells DRJ she knows why it's not working and that Olivia needs Peter.
Back in the lab, Broyles tells everyone about September's visit to Olivia a few weeks ago, when he told her in all possible futures, Olivia is going to die.
September has gone into septic shock and his organs are shutting down.
Astrid has the results of the facial recognition, he's Leland Spivey and he died in a car accident three years ago. He's the one helping DRJ now.
Peter thinks September is the only way to find Olivia. He suggests Walter put him into his consciousness. Walter points out if September dies while Peter's in there, Peter might die, too.
Walter prepares the drugs to dose Peter and put him into the Observer's mind.
Peter wakes up in a chamber with dark swirling cosmos all around. He witnesses the big bang. September is there with him, he knows he's dying. He says the question of who shot him isn't relevant, neither is the question of where Olivia is. He says there's a lot Peter has to understand before he goes. He tells Peter he's called September, a code designation given to members of his scientific team.
The Observers are humans from the future, one of countless possible futures. Their technology lets them travel through time so they can observe their beginnings.
He tells Peter he intervened to try to fix a mistake he made.
The scene changes and they see September visit Walter at the moment he misses finding his cure for Peter. He was there because Peter is important. That's why he saved Peter from Reiden Lake and let the other Walter cure him.
The war between the universes drastically altered universes and brought about a child that was not meant to be. He tells Peter about his son Henry, born to the wrong Olivia Dunham. It would have "irrevocably altered everything that is to come".
But when Peter stepped into the machine, he wasn't the only one who ceased to exit. He tells September he has to find a way to find his Olivia. The scene turns dark and he says "they're coming". He tells Peter to go home.
Peter wakes up back in the lab and the Observer goes into some sort of shock. As they're trying to figure out how to help him, he suddenly disappears.
They're back where they started. Broyles leaves to talk to Nina again.
Peter wonders if by "home" the Observer meant his actual home. He leaves.
Back at his house, Peter finds Leland waiting for him. Another man knocks him out.
Peter wakes up being dragged down the hall of the abandoned hospital where Olivia is being held. They take him into the adjoining room so Olivia can see him. Nina is also back strapped to her electrified bed frame.
Leland holds a knife to Peter's throat and Olivia stares at the light board. She doesn't just turn on one, she turns them all one, then she turns on the hospital lights, too. She turns them way up, blowing them out. She knows Nina isn't Nina, she got a detail wrong the memory she shared.
Fake Nina drops the ruse and she and DRJ leave the room. Olivia amps the lights higher and higher. Suddenly there are electrical charges from the lights that zap Leland. Olivia is tapped out.
Olivia goes into the other room, stepping over a charred Leland to free Peter. DRJ and Nina pack up while DRJ sends another of his men to keep Olivia and Peter occupied. As Peter and Olivia are walking down the hall, she starts to have a seizure and Peter helps her to the ground. The henchman pulls a gun on Peter, but he fights him off and knocks him out and takes his phone.
DRJ sets up his portal device and opens the door. Nina walks through, but Olivia comes around the corner with her gun drawn and tells him to stop. He ignores her and turns to walk through.
She shoots him through the neck. He's unaffected. "It seems there are some fringe benefits to having one's body reassembled on a sub-atomic level," he says.
Then he turns and steps through to the other side, closing the door behind him. Olivia is weak and Peter helps her down the hall.
Peter calls Lincoln and tells him to have the first responders bring a specific drug for Olivia. She thinks all the energy she expended did a number on her nervous system. But Peter thinks it might be him.
He tells her he was wrong to think they can be together. He saw his Olivia. He knows she's waiting for him. Olivia says she's in love with him and can't just turn that off. He walks away, telling her he has to go home.
