The Royal Variety Performance 2011
jboothmillard10 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I had seen The Royal Variety Performance four times before, and I knew this fifth one I had seen had some good acts in the line-up, all performing this time in front of Anne, Princess Royal. Hosted by comedian Peter Kay, performances and appearances in the show came from: The Royal Variety Drummer Ensemble, singer Cee Lo Green performing "Anyway", acrobatic variety act Base Berlin doing an athletic Chinese pole performance, comedian Greg Davies, singer Pixie Lott performing "All About Tonight", violinist David Garrett, comedian Omid Djalili, singer Leona Lewis performing "Hurt", Adam Cooper and the cast of the stage show Singin' in the Rain, magicians Penn & Teller, band Il Divo, comedian Mick Miller, Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowell performing "With or Without You", comedy mime act The Boy with Tape on his Face (Sam Wills), Lord Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber introducing four stars who played the Phantom (Simon Bowman, Earl Carpenter, Ramin Karimloo and John Owen-Jones) and Nicole Scherzinger as Christine performing the title song of the musical The Phantom of the Opera to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show, comedian Jason Manford, singer Barry Manilow performing "Mandy" and "Could It Be Magic", comedian/singer Tim Minchin performing "3 Minute Song", tenor Rolando Villazón and soprano Hayley Westenra performing "Smile" and "Gabriel's Oboe (Whispers In a Dream)" and "Tonight", and singer Tony Bennett performing "Steppin' Out with My Baby" and "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?". Very good!
