Anything But A Bombshell in Season Finale ****
edwagreen15 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The first season of this hit show ends with a home run.

The beginning is just great as we see "Marilyn" walking on stage to be greeted by the famous line-break a leg, while she walks on. You wonder if it's Karen or Ivy.

Even Bernadette Peters shows up again as she is so sure that her daughter will claim the coveted part.

Ellis proves what a character he is. Guess who put nuts in Rebecca's food to cause that allergic reaction?

My favorite song sung here is the woman who howls and that men are always on the prowl. It is staged beautifully.

Ivy shows how desperate she is by causing last minute havoc by telling Karen that she slept with her beau. Derrick plays psychologist and comes to the rescue.

Of course, the show must go on and a star is born.

The end of a season that got more melodramatic and ridiculous every week

Warning: Spoilers
Well, it happened to me again. I tried to go out and watch something that I thought might be enjoyable, even if it would be considered like more of a feminine show than a masculine one. I gave it a shot, and once again, I was snubbed.

Let me say this: I am unashamed to tell anyone that I am a fan of musical theater or that I have acted in several musicals before. I am a big fan of Broadway, and I actually could care less if that is seen as odd or irregular to some of my friends and people that know me. But having said that, I am also a fan of film and television. I believe in character development, realistic and engaging story structures, honest dialog, and strong directions and performances.

This is why "Smash" was the biggest disappointment of the television year for me.

If you have read anything I said before from this show, it is from the first half of the season. I previously wrote a recap of the first six episodes and a review of the first half finale, episode seven: "The Workshop." In the first half of the season, I was surprised at how much I was enjoying the show. Not to say I wasn't giving the show a chance coming out, but "Smash" notoriously was one of the most overly advertised shows in recent history. Anyone watching Sunday night football, the Super Bowl, and any other NBC telecast was bombarded with promotions with Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, and Anjelica Huston.
