Basically a real-time chronicle of a hippie sex party, WILD HIPPIE ORGY won't blow your mind (man), but at 28 minutes, it's a solid groove that doesn't outstay its welcome.
There's no plot; the film really is just a bunch of people showing up for a party. They sit around chit-chatting while the soundtrack becomes dominated by deep-cuts from proto-Creedence Clearwater incarnation The Golliwogs, presumably unlicensed but doing a great job setting the mood. As the evening progresses, clothes come off and the attendees begin to cavort, with the film gradually becoming more and more abstract until finally dissolving into a kaleidoscope of light and sound.
Like its co-feature since initial release, the even more inane PSYCHEDELIC SEX KICKS, WILD HIPPIE ORGY probably represents the closest possible experience to actually being high in the '60s. While PSYCHEDELIC embodies the schizoid equivalent of a bad trip, however, WILD is a slow, mellow burn, gradually worming its way into your brain and settling into a relaxing groove. Barely even a movie, it's more like a party in your pocket on a silver disk, providing a nice, gentle way to chill out and transport yourself back to the swinging '60s.
