If you want to make it as a big-time filmmaker in Hollywood, but don’t have any insider connections, you could make a short film in an attempt to launch your career. That’s exactly what three different filmmakers have done this week. Tom Jenkins and Simon Sharp created a lot of viral video buzz after releasing their short films Speed of Light and Address Is Approximate (you can see the latter below) into the wilds of the Internet. The move has now paid off, as the duo has been hired by Sony to rewrite and direct Giants. That project is a sci-fi piece about an alien race of giants who chase their attacker (a bolt that’s fallen off the Hubble telescope) back to Earth. When they arrive, they realize they aren’t giants here… Given the charming Address...

Creating a compelling short film continues to prove itself as a viable way of making it big in Hollywood in 2012. Our buddy Dan Trachtenberg from the Totally Rad Show did it with his short Portal: No Escape, which led to the director's chair on a heist film at Universal (I just spoke with Dan two nights ago, and he said the process is going great and they're on their second draft of the script right now). Chalk up two more short film directors heading to features as Deadline reports Tom Jenkins and Simon Sharp have been hired to direct a large-scale science fiction film called Giants for Sony, and it has a fun twist. More below! Jenkins and Sharp made names for themselves directing a beautiful short called Address Is Approximate, which racked up almost 2 million views in 12 days and scored them a representation deal, and we've embedded ...

Sony Pictures has hired short film directors Tom Jenkins and Simon Sharp to write and direct their sci-fi alien feature film called Giants.
The story follows "an alien race known as Giants on planet Gigantus who are attacked by a foreign spacecraft, which prompts a team of soldiers to embark on a mission to Earth in order to wage war. The aggressors are taken aback when they realize they were giants on their home planet, they are 1/4 inch tall compared to earthlings, and the foreign spacecraft that attacked them was actually a loose screw from the Hubble telescope. The giants land in a nerdy kid’s yard, and through a series of events bond to save the world."
That story might sound familiar to some of you, and that's because it's a very similar plot as the Twilight Zone episode "Invaders." This seems like it will end up having more...

Tom Jenkins and Simon Sharp are set to rewrite and direct the sci-fi feature "Giants" for Sony Pictures says Deadline.
The story follows an alien race, known as Giants from the planet Gigantus, who're attacked by a foreign spacecraft. This prompts a team of soldiers to embark on a mission to Earth in order to wage war.
Turns out the foreign spacecraft was a loose screw from the Hubble telescope. Though giants on their home planet, on Earth they are 1/4 of an inch tall. They soon bond with a nerdy kid and try to save the world.
Jenkins and Sharp are behind the short films "Speed Of Light" and "Address Is Approximate".
