I watched the first scene of The Soloist on my second day in the VR world. Scene 1 catapults you into Alex Honnoid's world. The shock of looking down reminded me of the glass-floored walkway over the Grand Canyon - your lower brain is screaming DANGER, even while your upper brain understands that you are safe.
The movie spends lovely time behind the scenes with Alex, in his home, in interviews, and then with a fellow climber and Alpinist as they find crazier and crazier things to do in the Dolomites and the alps, including prancing - not walking, *prancing* - up a jagged, snow-covered mountain spine with death on either side.
I can't remember ever being so riveted by a filmed experience, and I was sad when it was over. I would have gladly watched 4 more hours.
Alex Honnoid is Spiderman, and in this film, you almost become him.
