Who are the other reviewers?
gragsy2 March 2015
When I saw the excellent ratings and reviews for this movie I was quite excited about seeing it as I haven't seen a good horror in a while. After just 5 minutes into the film I couldn't believe I was watching the same movie as all the other reviewers that had given it 10 stars.

The acting was soooo bad, the plot was terrible and after about 25 minutes I started to fast forward to see if I was imagining it. No I wasn't, every time I pressed play all I got was the same crappy acting and the same annoying characters that I did in the first 5 minutes.

I would like to see more HONEST reviews about this movie on here just to prove to me it's not me who is losing it and it is in fact the awful film. If it continues to get 10 stars from every quarter then I will try and watch it again to see what I missed!

Student film trying way too hard
reisender10 March 2015
I felt ashamed by the end of the movie. I thought the actors were doing a spoof of terrible indie movies. This one wanted to be a horror movie, but I can only see it scaring a timid 8 year old in 1991. Such horrible acting and a script that is just so awful make this a very painful experience to sit through. I felt as though I was marking a student's film that they did in lieu of a thesis.

Nobody is convincing. Black guy is not scary just because he is black. Prostitutes from Degrassi Jr High. Lead actors are terribly ugly and really deserved a good scalping. I will bring my score up to 5/10 if it's revealed that the cast really did all die in real life.

Poorly executed mess
ellissamantha24 March 2015
I found paying attention to this tiresome and a challenge, a challenge I apparently could not conquer cause I'm pretty sure a spent more time daydreaming than being entertained by this film. The acting was average for a low budget and I am not reviewing to actor bash and I think the actors were fine and it was just the dialog they were handed along with the execution as a whole that just built no suspense to allow viewers to connect to the characters or the film as a whole. It simply failed to pull me in. With that said I thought perhaps it was just my mood so I took a second attempt and my opinion hasn't changed. The fake reviews on here are so misleading, no way people are giving this a 10 star unless involved in the film themselves which is sad because if the film was at all descent it would get 5-6 star average on it's own which for the horror genre is good on here and rating this a 10 star isn't gonna magically make the movie good, if anything it raise expectations and leaves viewers even more disappointed than they originally would be after watching.

I fell for it!
mailstudiostar6 March 2015
This movie is really bad. The high points probably comes from cast and crew conducting some sort of pre-internet-release internet-campaign. Kudos to them and well done. You fooled me!

The acting is pretty bad, the editing is actually okay but the script/story and directing is just infantile. It's like a less-than-bright adolescent wrote the script, trying to sort of copy the gist of other horror movies, not paying any attention to details or believability of characters or story-progression. It's just a big mess, to sum it up in one sentence. The music was really good though... but probably because it was taken from Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

not horror, horrible
yalibarkan1 March 2015
I opened an IMDb account especially to warn people from this waste of time.

All the rest of the reviews are by the cast and makers of the film. Actually calling it a film is doing the cinema wrong, it really is more like a student film. A bad, long, boring student film you just wished you haven't watched.

If you love the Horror Genre, I invite you to write an honest review as well (after trying to see the movie of course) just so other fans wouldn't have to go through the disappointment of finding out this movie's rating (7.4 at the time this review was written) is misleading.

I didn't manage to get through the first half an hour. Those who can, please contact your doctor. You have Alzheimer.

Finish the game
nogodnomasters10 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Travis Simon (David Rountree, writer, director, producer) introduces the film with a narration claiming "This is not that kind of film." Travis works in a warehouse that supplies film makers with cameras and equipment. Lane (David Banks writer ,producer) in on parole for beating up a prostitute, his favorite pastime. Lane works with Travis as we wonder why Travis tolerates Lane's erratic outbursts and behavior.

Travis gets an idea to make a film of their own where they scare people. He has a script. Lane wants to wing it by setting up cameras around the warehouse and film stuff that way. Travis goes along as Lane turns to killing and Travis films it.

The film was okay while it tries to be different. It includes cameos by Suze Lanier-Bramlett (These Hills Have Eyes I and II) and Gabrielle Stone (daughter of Dee Wallace), but nothing to write home about. You watch a film that basically is "Faces of Death" while it tells us "Any idiot with a camera can be a film maker." Hmmm. David Rountree should have stayed behind the camera.

Nothing more than a rental. Soft 3 stars.

Guide: F-bomb, sex, brief rear nudity. Some blood, killing and violence. Nothing terribly graphic.

A clumsy film trying to ride the "meta" train without paying it off
roger-21213 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS (although not intentionally or explicitly): A clumsy horror film, treading the lines between spoof, self-aware and "oh my god it's not a film!" realms not very successfully. The main problem is tone - the writing is overly obvious and overdone: Lane is in no way a realistic character or human, easily committing 3 faux pas/insulting acts in the first 10 minutes that would have gotten him fired, no matter his "friend" is his supervisor.

Casting your plot in a film equipment rental house is a potentially good idea to set up your "killer with a camera" idea but since this has been done a dozen times already (Shatter Studios, The Last Showing, Hollywood Kills, etc) one must do it smarter or better, not worse and more amateur-ish. I'm not talking about the low-budget look, I'm talking about the sloppy plotting and "motivation" of the characters. Rountree and Banks' script gets to "snuff" territory and stops thinking completely.

Also, clearly, the 10-star reviews are ringers. Claiming "nuance" and "intelligence" and wondering why the hate, clearly they've been tasked with balancing the rating here on IMDb (and all from Feb 2015, it looks like). Very suspicious as this is no Scream, this is no Babadook, this is no Chronicle. Maybe the filmmakers and producers should have spent more time on their script and fleshing out their ideas, not gaming IMDb.

This is junk.

Human perception is so interesting
jaredboghosian26 March 2015
I saw this movie for the first time during it's second weekend premiere with a group of friends. I'm never "scared" by movies, but I do enjoy analyzing and deducing what might happen in a thriller like this. I was able to divine the main plot twist through subtle character choices and dialogue hints. But what I liked most of all? That there was a twist I didn't catch. I was pleasantly surprised and even more impressed by the writing and acting.

Not sure why a lot of people are dumping on this film? It has a unique cinematic style that isn't cookie cutter like 90% of other horror/thrillers, and I love that it's super Hollywood and meta. Maybe people got butt-hurt because they didn't see the true twist at the end of the film? I really didn't see anything not to like.

But I guess that's the thing about human perception, fascinating and so drastically polarizing at times. I'd watch this film again just to pick up on the clues I missed the first time around.

Not perfect, but worth a watch.
jimmysmithx216 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie not really knowing what to expect. I checked some of the reviews which seem up and down, but there were several comments about the bad reviews were by those only watching for a little bit and not seeing it all the way through. This peeked my curiosity.

I can see both sides as the first 30 minutes or so seemed to be just kind of following a journey without a clear cut path. It wasn't that it was bad, I just didn't know where it was going. I think that if I stopped there, I probably would not have liked it either. After seeing it all the way through, the path became clear and I see why it went that route.

After the first death, the entire tone of the movie changes from a frat-boyish/bullying comedy to something much more dark and serious. I think this may be the problem with some people not liking this movie because they did not quite get this far in. It is a movie within a movie, but also seems to be a comedy that gets covered up by a dark drama.

In the opening scene, there is a guy shown in the booth who we know is some kind of bad guy and then we see him drag someone off. As this happens, the voice over narrates about how a serial killer can be anyone and there are some great images of "death tools." After that, we sort of forget that part existed, which I think must have been intentional since it came back to play later.

We learn what a jerk Lane is because he is violent and against all authority. I think the acting was pretty good. Maybe a bit over the top during a few moments early on, but still believable and well done. Lane likes to hear himself talk and doesn't care who he offends. We are meant to hate Lane and I think the actor does a good job of making that happen.

"Brenda" from the original Hills Have Eyes is in it as herself, which is cool for the horror world, but I haven't seen the original film yet. The comments they make in the movie about that movie do make me want to see it though.

The girls are all attractive and all do a pretty good job with the acting too. The locations are fairly simple so they probably didn't spend a lot of money but it doesn't scream low budget at all. Most everything seemed fairly appropriate.

A few cool visual effects look pretty good too including one with a guy getting hit by a truck and Lane almost getting hit by a train. For me, this is where the movie started to pick up and really engage my interest. I wanted to see more of the deaths happen on screen, but figured they didn't show for budget reasons.

Part of the film is wondering if karma would come back to get Lane, which plays into the twist at the end. I honestly did not think this film was going to be smart enough to have any kind of twist, which is why when it hit, I was caught off-guard (even though I had read there was one). The movie instantly became so much smarter than I ever imagined and everything made sense, including the way the deaths were filmed.

I probably would have rated this film a 5, but the ending hit me so hard that it brought everything together and actually made me smile. If you are looking to see a straight up horror movie, it's not this one, but if you want to see something sneakily smarter, you may enjoy it. I give it a 7. Not a perfect movie, but a good one and worth a look.

Yikes!
beebsmccaan5 March 2015
I also was excited about this movie because of the early reviews. Horrible, horrible movie. It was so bad, but I just put my finger on the reason why. I recommend watching this movie so you can see exactly what I mean. It seems to me that the early positive reviews of this movie were from people that are associated with it in some way, maybe just to hype it up. The film quality was poor, the acting was poor and the storyline was, well, there wasn't much of a storyline. I was waiting for that breakout moment when everything would come together, but that never came. I was angry that I was duped into watching this movie based on the outstanding early reviews given by some users of this website. I can't say much more than that.

Terrible
mjsreg31 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Well, there really isn't much to say about this movie except it is awful.

Awful acting form the first scene. Some guy trying to be some kind of deranged head case - more like someone who failed acting school - the other guy's acting was OK.

It got so bad I didn't see more than 20 minutes of the movie. Once the nice blonde at the beginning was out of the scene I lost interest very, very rapidly.

In the 'good 'ol days' this would have gone straight to VHS and stuck on some dusty back shelf somewhere - or straight into a charity shop.

Not enough original, and mediocre
marksuatrom30 June 2015
At first glance - a normal low-budget film in a genre almost-Horror. But I do not recommend, based on a stupid and primitive violence. In addition, if the horror is not scary, it is disgusting and it is already - not really a horror film. The plot is almost non-existent in it, the script is sucked from the finger.

What could be a plus, namely the ability to be rented for $ 300 a film turned out to be a minus. The movie was filmed in such a way, that is not much interested in the viewer .. NOT intriguing nothing at all, except to inflict physical harm or kill someone. What makes this creation, disgusting product, but unbecoming to view. Degraded- layer emulsion.

The director, of course, has its own style *, but the potential for its development is limited to primitive violence, because he * only on this reasonable. The very same film about mediocrity persons, who do not make sense as shooting is not something that horror, and anything at all, and doing terrible things on the way to his 1st movie - this is their horror, in fact about the film itself.

Cut so that with a certain probability may be able to tighten the film fans, until the end of viewing, but The usual bold viewer will want to turn off after 5 + minute (if not sooner, then later)

CUT! Review
TaylorJedMartin18 February 2015
It's rare I find a thriller/horror film that wraps me in and keeps me enticed. CUT! brings you a clever, smart, witty and entertaining horror flick that will leave you guessing all the way through. Brilliant performance from David Banks in the lead and David Rountree is equally as captivating. Rountree leaves an impressive directorial mark with excellent casting and superb performances. Locations, shot selection, and scene choices came together very well allowing the story to unfold with a stylistic classy touch. The score and post effects were spot on and we all know so much of a good horror flick relies on great audio. CUT! shows you that amazing work can be done with the right people, the right attitude, the right planning and a little bit of capitol.

Low budget but nicely done.
okpilak24 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
At the start, we are introduced to two main characters. One, an ex-con on probation for crimes of violence is working in a film makers supply warehouse. The other (Travis) seems to be in charge, but the business is set to close in a couple of weeks. Travis wants to make a film where people are deliberately scared, and it has to be on the cheap. So they drive around finding people to menace. It gives them more and more thrills. Travis decides to set up a scenario on a set, and gets a homeless man to menace a woman prostitute. It goes too far, and the woman winds up with her throat slit, putting a scare into both of them. While they are waiting to take the body away, a security guard approaches the truck, asking why they were not listed as working late. The guard recognizes Travis, so they get away. That adds more thrill to what they are doing, and they toss the body into the ocean. Once a murder is done, is seems easy to keep doing it, and adds realism to their proposed movie. But how will it end? The movie is nicely crafted, and it is clearly on a low budget.

Honest Review from a Female Perspective
OrganizedGal2 March 2015
I watched this movie on VOD with my boyfriend and here are my honest female perspective thoughts, take them for what they are:

Cut is a very good thriller (I rated an 8) that pays close attention to the detail in the story telling adventure. It is a very smart story that poses as something that seems overly generic at times in the beginning, but is, in actuality, far from it. Once we realize what is really going on, it all makes sense and I felt infantile and silly for not seeing it coming. The movie does not spoon feed the audience with the obvious and assumes there is a level of intelligence in the viewer, which I really appreciate.

Yes, I wish a few of the ideas had been developed a bit more, but most movies have that flaw. And for a lower budget (I'm guessing under a million), the acting is solid and the stylistic imagery is well done. If you are looking for a true horror movie with excessive blood and guts, you may be disappointed, but I don't think that is what this movie is meant to be. When we get to the end, the choice of the visual style all makes sense and is rather brilliant.

In response to some of the posts here and on other movies, it's quite sad how some people just have to say nasty things just to say them. Maybe it makes them feel important, not sure. Some get into a debate over silly things which have no foundational value at all, but these are probably the same people who were bullies in high school and now have nothing better to do.

It seems that the bad reviews here all say similar things about only watching a few minutes then skipping around. It's quite a shame that you chose to judge something before seeing it all the way through, but maybe you were just looking for a gore fest of obligatory images of blood and boobs.

Cut is very well done and definitely worth a watch, but you have to be smart enough to put it together.

Thinker-mystery psychological thriller/horror who-done-it! Loved it!
chrissh23 February 2014
Kudos to Director David Rountree on delivering a brilliantly directed and crafted thriller full of surprises! Co-written together by Rountree (Travis Simon) and David Banks (Lane Hayes), this is not your usual slasher horror film, but instead is more of a thinker-mystery type psychological thriller/horror who-done-it, with some comedic moments (yes, there's comedy), but don't let that sway your thinking that this isn't a serious thriller movie. And right when you think you've got it figured out, you realize you don't have anything figured out... CUT! is full of surprises, twists and angles, sure to feed your thrill-seeking soul clear up to the very end! .... or, is it the end? Great cast! Great directing! Brilliant script! You must definitely put CUT! on your watch list!

Cut...was awesome!!!
bperras121 March 2015
I LOVED this movie!! This was a great thriller! I had to see this movie multiple times!! I do not wanna say anything as far as the movie goes....but it is mind blowing!! I was all over the place with who I was thinking and it just kept changing it all the time! The writers wrote a great movie, and I hope it develops into a franchise because it has that ability to be one!! Just be prepared for twist and turns and pay attention because if you get up to use the bathroom you might miss something. I do see why this film won so many awards, with Best Director and best Leading actor!! Just take my advice and go see this movie! In total I saw this movie 3 times and you'll see why when you watch the movie!! Go see this movie or buy it!!

Simply outstanding!
t-miecz16 February 2015
I've been watching horror films all my life. This isn't another slasher film, nor is it a psychological thriller that you might be used to. Expect an amazing ride right from the beginning.

Well written, all questions will be answered. All the puzzle pieces will fall into place, and then I won't blame you if you feel that you need to watch this film one more time knowing what you know now.

Well acted and directed - both main characters keep you on the edge of your seat and invoke a slew of emotions.

The film score along with sound design is phenomenal and glues everything together quite nicely.

Unlike any indie film I've ever seen. I can hardly wait for a DVD release with director's commentary.

Excellent
work2702319 February 2015
Excellent film, intelligent and entertaining. I enjoyed watching the thought processes of each character. David Banks was outstanding, and I was totally taken by the beauty and talent of Dahlia Salem, the entire cast worked hard to get the correct "feel" and it showed as this came across on the screen. David Roundtree's directing seems to allow the actors to explore their characters and they appeared to interact well on screen. I appreciated the tip of the hat to the past; with Suze Lanier-Bramlett from The Hills Have Eyes fame. I also appreciated the Hitchcock type filming where your mind is allowed to enhance the scenes. Overall a great mix of horror, and dark comedic moments that entertain and chill. Go see CUT!

Awesome
robbieoceans5 June 2017
The point of this movie was an obsession a twisted obsession. David Banks rocks in this and I find him to be excellent in the film. It definitely made me cringe.

I have full respect for anyone who creates a finished product. Just because it does not have flying robots and naked princesses waiting to be rescued by an all too cliché prince, doesn't make this bad. Some of these other reviewers don't recognize the overall idea of this.

Anyone who has an appreciation for the arts, and likes the Dark Twisted role-play, this is for you

robbie-6098818 July 2017
I found this one to be freakishly delicious. It had all the elements an Indie film had. Great Actor and Actress. The plot was centralized around a deranged system, which i absolutely like. The fact it was budgeted means nothing to me, people usually miss the point of art. David Banks among the others, was perfect in this.

This was quite possibly one of the best indie horror films I've ever seen!

So smart, so well written, well directed, well acted, well scored, etc. Just overall very well done.

You will think you know what's going on...but boy will you be wrong! ;-)

Rountree and Banks make a wonderful duo with great chemistry in what starts off as a buddy comedy...that turns very dark very quickly. Lines of morality are wonderfully blurred.

Make sure you catch this one. You will not be disappointed!

Really awesome movie
JoeRussell119 February 2015
I just saw this tonight at a little theater in Hollywood. Was not sure what to expect although I did see the trailer. This movie was really good... some really scary stuff at times, I jumped a few times for sure. The acting is solid and the thing looks really good. So, who ever shot it did a fantastic job. It sets up pretty nicely for a sequel, so hopefully we see that one day.

Just a little side note... after watching the movie, I have been watching over my shoulder a little more than normal.

Great storytelling...

Worth a watch.

WOW! Lost faith in thrillers? Watch "Cut!"!!
RobertSherry20 February 2015
Most thrillers tend to lose my attention pretty early in because they all seem to be either too similar, predictable, or corny. (or all of the above) Not this one, completely unpredictable. This is an incredibly intelligent movie that demands your attention throughout; otherwise you may miss some clues or some extremely well done scenes(make sure you know who's sitting next to you before you start watching)! Extremely well written, directed, and definitely very well done on the acting side. Given the quality of this movie overall it's hard to realize or accept the fact that this is in fact an ultra-low budget independent film.

Highly recommended!

**Oh and I love the twists! :-)
