From the simple idea that you can buy an egg salad sandwich at an interstellar gas station vending machine, to the heartfelt blossoming romance between Fry and Leela with the ultimate realisation that life often lumps you with people that fail to meet your expectations and a swashbuckling adventure along the way, the original outing for the parasitic worms was a blast, just brilliant!
How do you top that? Well it would seem that sadly you can't.
There's nothing really wrong with this episode it's just not that great and with the build up of expectation from a new series and the greatness of the earlier episode this simply feels like a let down.
The writers appear to be playing it very safe, touching on previous plot lines or characters without much originality. The show should be limited by the whole of time and space but here we are with yet another film parody going over old ground.
Futurama has it's comic genius but the main draw, for myself at least, has always been the adventure and most importantly the show had heart. I want to be blown away by an original and exciting storyline and left feeling warm inside with a touch of bittersweetness that Fry and Leela just missed out on being together but knowing they'll get there one day even if we don't get to see it happen.
The show has been treated badly by the networks over the years which is a crying shame, more Futurama should be a blessing but perhaps we should have been left reliving the glory days and wanting more rather than ending up disappointed by mediocrity.
