Alone in the Dark is among the most thrilling experiences a game has ever delivered in the history of video games. The horror of the game has been recreated by Pieces Interactive which will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 20 March 2024. But before that, publishers of the game, Thq Nordic, felt a need to tickle the amygdala of people via a real-life experience.
To fulfill this fantasy, they reached out to Realm Pictures alongside, a small group of creatives who created a real-life version of the fan-favorite stealth video game Hitman in 2016. Alongside Havas Entertainment, they recreated the Derceto Manor for content creators to give them an immersive experience of the game.

One of the most common (and overused) setups in horror has to be a young babysitter fending off a killer. The trope existed on and off screen before Halloween, but there’s no denying the 1978 movie influenced countless people to make their own comparable stories about imperiled caregivers. Now, readers will take one look at HarperCollins’ 1995 young-adult series Baby-Sitter’s Nightmares and naturally think these terror tales are nothing more than rehashes of old slasher movies. Looks can be deceiving, though.
Bill Schmidt’s artwork for the first two Baby-Sitter’s Nightmares books show the main characters, both young and attractive teen girls, in familiar scenarios. On the cover of Daniel Parker’s Alone in the Dark, the babysitter clutches a phone handset, mouth agape with fear, and staring out the window. The art for M.C. Sumner’s The Evil Child isn’t too dissimilar in style; the main...

Video games have been trying to scare us since the early ’80s. While the seminal Haunted House Atari game, one of the earliest survival horror games, presented its scares through a mix of heavily-pixelated ghosts and spiders that weren’t so frightening at all, it was indicative of where the genre would one day go. With another push, thanks to titles such as Sweet Home and Alone in the Dark, the survival horror genre would give birth to some of its most frightening creations: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Eternal Darkness, and Dead Space, to name a few.
Today, the genre lives on and continues to evolve. From interactive horror movies like Until Dawn to first-person experiences beyond comprehension like P.T., the survival horror genre continues to prove why it’s one of the mainstays of the industry and why it will always rise from the grave for one last scare.
