That hasn't happened, mostly because film festivals, despite recent interest in web TV, prefer shorts to series, and shorts still attract investors and distributors. This month Tj Misny bridges the divide at the Brooklyn Film Festival, where his series of three short films, Intimate Semaphores, screened last week to a sold out crowd. (It screens again Friday at 10:30Pm for all those interested.) Misny is best known as the director and photographer of some of New York's best indie television. He directed Broad City's second web finale, its most popular episode featuring Kristen Schaal and Amy Poehler, who went on to executive produce the critically lauded Comedy Central series. He directed the first season finale of I Hate Being Single,...

Tribeca N.O.W. is a new initiative that recognizes creators of new online work (N.O.W.) aiming to discover, highlight, and celebrate the next generation of storytellers who choose to create and share their work in the online space. Tribeca Film Festival Programmer, Cara Cusumano, sat down with several artists/online pioneers as part of a series of talks hosted at the Apple Store in SoHo. Members of the panel included Rob Michael Hugel, creator and star of "I Hate Being Single," Ben Sinclair & Katja Blichfeld, creators of "High Maintenance," and Natalia Leite & Alexandra Roxo of "Be Here Nowish." Cusumano asked the creators where they wanted their work to develop. The answers revealed a similar theme. Television is the light at the end of the tunnel. Series Name: I Hate Being Single Asking For: $15,000 on Indiegogo Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $3,831 Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 22 Description: I Hate Being Single is, like many other independent web series, a show about a young New Yorker trying to figure out how to survive as a twenty-something in the city. As you might expect, this means that the quality hinges almost entirely on the writing, which was, during the first season, quite good. The series is written and directed by Rob Michael Hugel, who stars as a hopelessly romantic Williamsburg resident. According to Splitsider, the first season "does for the twenty-something hipster Brooklyn crowd what Seinfeld did for the thirty-something Manhattan yuppie set." This campaign hopes to fund season two. Creator Bio: Hugel is a UCBer who often hangs out with his comedy and YouTube friends on the I Hate Being Single channel.
