It's a mixed bag. Barring Siddharth, the new comedians are not funny at all.

Kapil Sharma returns with a new season of the show and a lot has changed this time. The absence of Krishna Abhishek and the new and inexperienced comedians inducted into the show indicates that there have been some budget cuts. The show starts with a small skit that is filled with some vulgar and double meaning jokes, something I did not expect from Kapil Sharma. Once again the show makes fun of Arijit Singh; I know Kapil would never want something like this, it's the producer who is making him do it, which is why I want Kapil Sharma to come out of the clutches of Salman Khan and find a new producer for his show. I am sure there are plenty of people willing to finance his show; the bad times are behind him and it's one of the rare television shows that families still watch, be it in rural areas or urban areas.

The comedy in the initial part of the show is a hit and miss. The new actors failed to make a mark and the writing too is a letdown. What they are doing now is not exactly new; a similar plot was used in Kapil's earlier show, Comedy Nights with Kapil. Sumona was Kapil's wife, and her father, played by Sunil Grover, used to just hang around at their house. Comedian Ishtiyak Khan, who plays Sumona's father in this new season, has also been given the same look as that of Sunil Grover in Comedy Nights with Kapil; but of course this time the laughter is missing. Kapil and Sumona taking potshots at each other by talking about the financial status of their families is also getting old. This bickering used to be funny many years back, but not so much anymore.

Things get better after Akshay Kumar arrives on the stage; Akshay Kumar's sense of humour and camaraderie with Kapil always makes the proceedings entertaining. Akshay Kumar has been having a rough time at the box office of late, with every single film turning out to be a failure, but he decided to make a joke out of it, which was nice to see because normally actors have too much pride to indulge in self-deprecating humour. Among other guests, Rakul Preet Singh and Sargun Mehta were quite relaxed and their conversation with Kapil was genuinely entertaining. Sargun has previously worked with Kapil, so her comfort level was much more than the others and her presence actually made the episode quite funny.

Among the five new comedians, only Siddharth Sagar made an impact. Siddharth's portrayal of Ustad Gharchoddas was quite funny. There is no doubt about his potential as a comedian, it's just that he is still a little unpolished; with a little more experience and encouragement, he will surely match up to the best of comedians. Thankfully, Kiku Sharda is still around, because he is seriously the backbone of this show. This guy has been the most underrated comedian in Kapil's team; Kiku is a remarkable talent but since he has always lived under the shadow of Sunil Grover, people don't really talk much about him. His comic timing is excellent and he always gives his best to the show. Kiku getting some spotlight is the only good thing to happen in the show due to the exit of Sunil Grover. But I don't like the character he has been given this time; once again he has been made a woman and it's pretty much the same as Palak from Comedy Nights with Kapil. Kapil Sharma really needs to stop giving female roles to men, it's not funny at all. Why not get actual girls to play the female characters? There are so many female comedians out there these days!

Without a doubt, Krishna's absence was felt in this episode. His portrayals of Jackie Shroff, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra and Dharmendra have always been outstanding to say the least. I really missed the combination of Kiku Sharda and Krishna playing Garam Singh and Funny Deol, their act has always been the best part of the show. I really hope Kapil tries to sort out the issues and brings back Krishna. Also, making a little more effort, I hope he also sends an invitation to Sunil Grover as well.

Finally I must talk about Archana Puran Singh. I don't understand why is she a part of the show. How can you pay someone just for sitting comfortably on a chair and laughing? What's more shocking is that her payment is actually higher than some of the actors of the show. Don't you think that's a little insulting for the hard working comedians? In my honest opinion, Archana has no reason to be on the show. To boost the confidence of the comedians, there is a studio audience who is laughing all the time; you don't need Archana for that, because her fake laughter doesn't add humour to the show, it makes it irritating instead. On top of that she keeps interrupting Kapil and the guests all the time for no reason at all. I would really urge Kapil to get rid of her; you have an audience to add the laughter, you don't need anyone else to sit on a special chair and act as a Judge, there is no competition going on here.
