Magnum PI - Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii 2
Scarecrow-8824 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Follow up closes Magnum's investigation into his Navy buddy's death, has him confront his attraction to the dead officer's sis (Shoop), find nemesis Coolly (Fritz Weaver) dead at the hands of smuggler La Bull (Robert Loggia), and finally encountering the man responsible for his friend's demise. Judge Reinhold has a very funny bit part as a nervous security guard who Magnum convinces he's Navy (Magnum got out his old uniform) so that he could gain access to Coolly's records. WK Stratton is an ensign for the NIA who helps Magnum to a point. Rick takes care of a hired Hawaiian thug that nearly kills Higgins (Magnum had to give the Ferrari over to him, and the thug got mixed up), and had attempted to shoot Magnum but a car crash halted that kill mission. Loggia was a soldier fighting alongside Magnum and others in Nam. Shoop and Selleck have good chemistry, Magnum and Higgins' rivalry is always entertaining, and Magnum's pals, TC and Rick (actual name, Orville!) complement Selleck well. It's no surprise this show took off. Selleck oozes charisma and confidence in this role, at home in the character. Lots of lush Hawaiian scenery and lovely women only enhances the show.

Solid continuation of a great pilot!
Analog_Devotee31 October 2021
I think the decision to do a two-parter was a solid one. We learn even more about Thomas Magnum as a character, about who he is and what drives him. I can see why this pilot is considered to be a classic among many!

Part 2 of the beginning
safenoe19 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I always find it amusing when imdb reviewers devote a lot of time reviewing the first part of the series opener (e.g. Monk) but taper off when it comes to the second part. Anyway, I'm finally getting around to watching Magnum from the beginning and you can feel the bridge between the 70s and 80s with the funky music and the soaring 80s.

Here Magnum works hard to clear the name of an old army buddy who supposedly swallowed illegal substances big time. Interestingly, the second part doesn't quite answer how that happened but still. Anyway, the end credits roll like in the cinema, so that's quite unique.

Judge Reinhold makes a guest appearance before shooting to fame in Beverly Hills Cop.

Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii Part II the conclusion to the 80's favorite crime show of mine!
Part II of a favorite Pilot episode Magnum P.I. from the 80's. This is the conclusion of the two parts of Magnum. In my opinion this part was the best of the two in the first season. It also explains what the title "Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii" stands for and what does it means since Hawaii doesn't have any actual snow only tropic weather. Season 1 of Magnum P.I. is original classic my favorite Season in Magnum P.I. Tom Selleck is the only Magnum for me no one else.

Snow in Hawaii means drugs, Magnum finds a related cases that evolves a drug smuggling operation and smuggling gold from Japanese in which they found in the water and Dan was sent to Tokyo but Coley covered everything up and Dan was innocent and he was murdered. Snow is actually Snow White (Eugenia Wright) she is a queen of drug cartels in Hawaii, she brings Magnum to "La Bulle' (Robert Loggia) a criminal mastermind whom Magnum and Dan once knew in Vietnam. He was responsible for the murder of Dan Cook and Captain Cooly.

Fantastic episode better than Part I, great acting performance from everyone. Robert Loggia was the best in this 2 part episodes as the main villain who faked his death in Vietnam in which he served in the same unit with Magnum and Dan and become a powerful drug smuggling king in Hawaii. Great acting from Pamela Susan Shoop as Dan's sister Alice, she was beautiful. Judge Reinhold from Beverly Hills Cop trilogy is in here, he is great, we have Branscombe Richmond as Moki in this episode. You have a firepower in which Rick (Larry Manetti) fires on an assassin with an Uzi automatic weapon and saves Higgins life, actually Magnum saves Higgins from been shot by an assassin. I love Magnum's car red Ferrari 308GTS I love his car.

John Hillerman will be forever and always in my heart as Jonathan Quayle Higgins III no one could play so brilliantly the character Higgins like John did. He was from Texas and he was American, but his character was British and with his ascent John fooled a lot of people believing he was British. R.I.P. John Hillerman I miss you. I love this show to death. The first Season to me is the best one, Part 2 of Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii is the best one of the two. Tom Selleck's performance is the best in here. I love T.C.'s helicopter in this episode.

I miss the 80's, in my opinion the 80's had so much cool TV shows, cool action movies, great horror film than today. I miss those times more they were better than today. I love Magnum P.I. to death like I said Season 1 is my favorite in the show. Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson creators of this show give us a great run. Live long Magnum P.I. the best crime 80's show series ever.
