What's missing?
sanjeevanwar16 July 2023
Anwar Says: I was waiting for this series, not disappointed but not happy either. Adapted from GOOD WIFE, the American web series is not simply a courtroom drama but sheds light on impact of media trial, love triangle , family feuds, behaviour of children on father's betrayal, however unable to conclude. Suparn S Verma should have gone deeper into the screenplay and may have been a better outcome.

Kajol is probably the best actress of this era and she as a multifaceted and resilient woman shines both in courtroom scenes ,as well as in emotional family scenes and handling the growing children. Kubra Sait as Sana is such a cool character and is an integral part of the series and so Alyy Khan putting huge mark. Sheeba Chaddha, Kiran Kumar , Gaurav Pandey and Amir Ali have put their best.

Trial touched some very important cases of social importance but not able to bring it to logical end and it was also shocking to see a top law firm has allowed an intern to handle such sensitive cases . Kiran Kumar leaving the firm for absolutely no reason is als unconvincing. Watch it for Kajol only.

A Half Baked Drama and I'm still trying to find the trial
georgethomasp19 July 2023
The titular Trial is practically non existent and while one would assume this is a legal thriller, one would be sorely mistaken. The struggle that they desperately try to showcase is non existent, almost as if Kajol had given clear instructions that her time on the show should be as comfortable as possible and her struggle resembles that of a Bollywood star kid.

The trial is also poorly captured, depicted and executed and almost seems to be the background artist of the show unlike what the title seems to convey unless maybe there is a personal and social trial also happening but maybe that episode seems missing.

Poor casting, terrible acting and misguided direction seem to be the only consistent parts of the show. It's almost like Ajay Devgn was planning a holiday for his better half with some mild work thrown in, and here she has done enough to challenge the better part of the better half title.

Characters are all over the place. Even stalwarts have been reduced to one dimensional, almost caricaturish representations of what they could have been.

Another court room stories
sameerlodaya14 July 2023
Sameer lodaya

The series is just another court room stories what we have seen before in guilty minds and a season of criminal justice featuring kirti

The series is inspired by a British series called the good wife but here yet the good wife character has to come now the ongoing season is just showcasing a lawyer..this season has just focused on some cases and how the law firm solves it..the series is slow in pace and lagging in 8 long episodes where the main content of a wife as a lawyer fighting for her husband is kept for another season..

The performances are just average and nothing extraordinary with top and renowned actors

It would be good if they would had focused on the wife fighting for her accused husband.

Kajol steals the show at ease, with her hiatious career experience she does it flawlessly... The dialogues are the backbone of the series which is a see through or has to pass out in every common man's life lessons One of the standout aspects of "The Trial" is its strong and well-developed characters. Each character is intricately crafted, with their own unique motivations and conflicts. The performances of the cast are commendable, bringing these characters to life with depth and conviction.

The storyline of "The Trial" is both engaging and thought-provoking. It delves into the complex nature of the legal system, highlighting the challenges and biases that exist within it. The series raises important questions about truth, justice, and the power dynamics at play in the courtroom.

The attention to detail in recreating the courtroom setting and the use of lighting and camera angles effectively capture the intensity and drama of the trial proceedings.

It is a thought-provoking and gripping series that will leave viewers wanting more. Whether you are a fan of crime dramas or interested in exploring the flaws of the legal system, "The Trial" will not disappoint.

In one word PATHETIC
alokaparulekar15 July 2023
The extent we can go to just to avoid thinking of a new plot is amazing! Literally a straight lift of the Good Wife but a trillion times worse. Kajol should stick to dancing in sarees because she can't act to save her life. You see her in anything, It's the same lip quiver, nostril flaring, stern dialogue delivery and bunny tears everytime. The rest are not even worth writing about. The producers of good wife would sue these nincompoops but even they must pity them that it doesn't seem worth it. Overall avoid at all costs. Watch ANYTHING ELSE. Don't ruin a single minute of your life on this horrible series.

Engaging courtroom drama!! Great casting!!
sanjubhat17 July 2023
Web Series Review: the Trial streaming on Disney+ Hotstar #sanjuzzreviews #thetrialonhotstar #TheTrial #DisneyPlusHotstar #kajol #JishuSengupta #SheebaChaddha #kubrasait

An adaptation of the American Series, The Good Wife, The Trial is the story of an ex-lawyer Nyonika Sengupta ( Kajol) who has quit practice to focus on her family. She is forced to return to work after her husband Rajiv ( Jishu Sengupta) who is an additional judge, is jailed on charges of sex & corruption. It showcases her struggles in the courtroom especially after being out of action for a decade and how she overcomes one obstacle after another to emerge a winner.

I haven't watched the American series and hence my review of this series is purely a standalone one without comparing it with the original. So here goes ...

The storyline is crisp & well edited. It has good production value, a stellar cast who have done an awesome job. There are some minor loopholes here and there but these can be discounted!!

Some members of the cast worth mentioning would be... Alyy Khan who plays Vishal , Nyonika's ex- boyfriend. Sheeba Chadda ( Malini ) who has essayed the role of Nyonika's boss , Kubra Sait as Sana who is Nyonika's subordinate at work and a well wisher.

Kajol is great as the protagonist even though she goes overboard at times. But to cut her some slack , a decent performance overall.

Ritu Raj & Kiran Kumar are however wasted in miniscule roles.

The climax isn't over dramatic & the season ends on a logical note !! Season 2 is definitely coming !!

Decent watch !! However if you compare it with similar dramas like Dirty Minds & The Broken news, I found the above 2 better .

Going with 3/5 for this one .. Adios 🙂!!

What a dumb legal show- DON'T WATCH!
shreniktrivedi24 July 2023
Without wasting others time to read :
  • Stupid Bollywood style dialogue in court room setting. Check out real court debates on YouTube - example channel LawChakra.

  • judges are shown insensitive which is not true
  • police are also shown useless 🤣 (well may be)
  • there are barely any legal terminology spoken by "the topper" Kajol.

  • and that news anchor's inflammatory rubbish.

I don't think the maker of the show are still grounded to reality, Indians tastes in webseries is to have some sensible realism to the theme.

In my opinion, first episode feels like Bollywood attempt to make a close to replica of Shushant case and provide clean chit to accused.

A Must watch series
vijayeta-9282917 July 2023
Must watch series.

Courtroom dramas are mostly engaging, nail-biting and full of surprises. Kajol steps into the zone of web series with Suparn S Varma's 8-episode show titled The Trial - Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha which is a family drama and courtroom thriller.

The 8-episode series is more than just a courtroom drama. There are underlying conversations around corruption, politics, media trials, fake news and several others. On the surface, it explores Noyonika's struggle to strike the right balance between personal commitments and professional space. The Trial begins with Rajiv's arrest and how the Senguptas have to pave their way through a cruel society and insensitive people. While Rajiv is battling his own war, Noyonika is fighting demons at the workplace including office politics.

Kajol is the good wife. Hehe. - itsbymayank
mayanklouteriya17 July 2023
Kajol Kajol Kajol is the only character which hooks the audience till the end but slowly.

The length of the series kills the engagement of the excitement.

This review head line says something please notice.

Makers did a nice work I must say even all characters does.

People will love it as it is new to them.

But people who have watched a hollywood side webseries will feel nothing new but watchable.

Loud Backgroud Music.

With punchy dialogues and the confident role of lead actors and side actors are good and make it worth watch once.

If you haven't seen this kinda web series before (especially American) and ya its not ending here it's a long web series.

Review of The Trail - itsbymayank.

Simply confusing
ashumish16 July 2023
Don't waste time as you many other shows in your bucket list and time is limited to watch all.

In the time where you have so limited time, you must pick good quality show.

Same level of acting and not a worthy level of suspense and thrill.

Plot is confusing and this confusion should be avoided by the director.

The story line is weak. They have picked up a good subject like judiciary and law but they failed miserably to project it thoughtfully. When you have a good topic the responsibility becomes bigger.

The casting is good, but the direction is not good and should not be recommended at all.

Awesome show
rswason15 July 2023
Karol and supporting actors are all fantastic. Loved the Sushant Singh rajput case. Hope there is a season 2. Great for binge watching. Good adaptation of the good wife and has the right amount of Indian culture And emotional elements. Good storylines and taut direction with well fleshed out characters. Kajol passes with flying colours. She deserves more solid roles that allow her to perform and show off her range. Liked Suchitra pillai as an opposing lawyer in one episode. She is a solid actor. The child actors are great too and show great acting range despite their young age. Great show overall.

"Semi Intriguing Blend of Drama and Law: "The Trial" Review"
fatnaniashish14 July 2023
"The Trail" is a web series that draws inspiration from the Good wife but has nuances of popular legal dramas like "Boston Legal" and "Suits." While it leans more towards being a drama than a strictly legal series, the performances of Kajol and Aly Khan shine brightly. The storyline revolves around a cheating scandal involving a lawyer, blending elements of family drama into the narrative.

On a rating scale, I would give it a 6. The plot centers around the acceptance of cheating in a semi-modern society like India, juxtaposed with deep-rooted traditions-an intriguing irony. Some episodes offer engaging storylines, but it's hard to ignore the strong resemblance to "Suits" and "Boston Legal." Unfortunately, the acting of the junior lawyer is subpar and can be quite annoying.

One notable oddity is how the kids hide the crucial piece of evidence, adding a layer of suspense. While the direction is commendable, the script could have been better structured, and the series could have explored more innovative approaches. Despite its flaws, "The Legal Code" manages to deliver moments of intrigue and keeps viewers entertained throughout. Average one time watch !

Love and Law Are Put On Trial In This Standard Legal-Family Drama.
SAMTHEBESTEST14 July 2023
The Trial (2023): Series Review -

Kajol makes a webseries debut in Suparn Verma's eight-episode series, "The Trial". Based on CBS' TV series "The Good Wife," The Trial is a testament to theoretical changes according to our society's trends. Suparn Verma has created a show for our audience, but the adultery features are still not appropriate for families. But otherwise, it's an honest adaptation of The Good Wife. If you are thinking The Trial is about bringing about good and necessary changes in family traditions, society, and the legal system, then let me tell you that you are absolutely wrong. An absolute wrong perception brings an absolute disappointment. So you better prepare yourself for something that's about betrayal and evil, be it any element of the series-drama, law and justice, profession, love, or promises.

Rajeev Sengupta's (Jisshu Sengupta) sex clip with a female escot goes viral, and so he is suspended from his law position. His wife, Noyonika (Kajol), is devastated but has to take care of the kids and the family, which leads him to step out of the house for a job. Her ex-boyfriend, Vishal (Alyy Khan), gives her a chance at his law firm as an intern on probation for 6 months. Noyonika's one and only competition is another intern, Dheeraj (Gaurav Pandey), who is the favourite of one of the bosses, Malini (Sheeba Chaddha). Noyonika's kids are feeling ashamed to go to school and public places since their dad's image is totally filthy. The case is pretty similar to Noyonika's, but she believes in fighting rather than running away. With new cases in hand, office pressure, her husband's case, and conspiracies, Noyonika tries to find, or better say, establish, her existence as a woman who can do anything.

The Trial is indeed about a lot of things, but sadly, it doesn't put in enough effort to complete at least one of them. It is about fighting for law and justice, but we see lawyers who are more interested in their clients' goodwill and business. It's about a woman who is betrayed by her husband, but we see her repeating the same mistake with a sort of extramarital affair. The Trial is also about the Media Trial and how it can destroy someone's life, but we see it getting scrapped by someone's medical condition rather than arguments in court. The Trial also tries its hands at love triangle, and believe me, it's a big flop there. Justice and Love needed purification here, but sadly, that didn't happen. Some of the cases actually start off on an interesting note but end up being mediocre. Somebody's medical insurance fraud deserves to be explained so that people will understand the loopholes and tricks, but the Trial has you finishing it off with political references. Nevertheless, The Trial attempts all the trending things in today's world, and I am glad that somebody took on this challenge. One of the major influences on these is social media, news headlines, and reality shows. But somewhere, it needed a little filtering for the children and family audiences since some of the characters represent them on screen.

The Trial gets all the actors to perform at their best. Kajol literally shines like a strong lead in this series, and I am happy to see her working so well in a longer format. Usually, a two-hour runtime may not be enough for her calibre, but webseries have that liberty. Except for a few prosthetic exposure shots, she looks absolutely stunning. Every episode ends with her poetic dialogue, and that, I believe, is what stays with you. Jisshu Sengupta has been underlined in this series, but he makes a good comeback in the concluding parts. Kubbra Sait has a good role with bad features, but she does fine. A couple of kissing scenes are becoming mandatory for webseries nowadays; therefore, Kubrra has them naturally. But what's surprising is that even Kajol couldn't stay far this time. Sheeba Chaddha is a total killer as the head of a law firm. She makes things so natural and easy for the co-actors and her director. The male cast of The Trial has also done exceptionally well, including Alyy Khan, Gaurav Pandey, Kiran Kumar, Swayam Joshi, and others. Haelyn Shastri, Sheena Chouhan, Nancy Gill, Nirbhay Jain, Manasvi Mamgai, Flora Saini, Suchitra Pillai, and the rest of the supporting cast are very nice.

Coming to the technical aspects, The Trial seemed decent. The cinematography and the background score could have been better since it was a sort of thriller with courtroom drama. The production design is fine, though. You know, we have been habitual of seeing long and wide courtrooms, when in reality, it's completely different. The Trial shows you how it is-from outside as well as inside. Suparn Verma's courtroom drama raises a lot of questions that have been raised before. What the law and justice's failure tries to suggest here is comparatively nothing in comparison to what we have seen in "Section 375" (2019). The feminism angle of a working woman is far too dated now. If you ask me what's new, I'd say the ending. That betrayal and that longing actually sounded better than the whole show. The Trial gains something and misses something, but overall, it's a standard legal family drama that makes for a decent watch.

Combination of thriller and drama with a desi touch
gopikasuku17 July 2023
The show begins with the most shattering moment for the female lead played by Kajol. Later, it is carried forward with the multiple hurdles that comes her way while trying to bring the situation under control amid the shocks of what had actually happened to her family life.

Kajol, who played the lead character called Noyonika, had to get back to work because of the financial unrest her family is drawn into. She has very seamlessly portrayed the role which deals with the combination of a good wife, a loyal and just lawyer and above all a good mother.

The show is fast moving with a couple of other cases coming around letting the newly joined lawyer show her capabilities. Kajol as Noyonika always favours the truthful part of the cases, except for her own husband's, where she loses her own identity and tries to be a good wife rather. The series has however managed to hold on with the ongoing standards. There are also reasonable amount of twists and turns which keeps the show going.

Noyonika's character is however les explored. There is not much expressed on what she is actually going through or what she feels about her husband or the situation that she is drawn into. The character seems to be uncertain about her future plans and just thinks of keeping things going which did not feel much like Noyonika. Also the fact that she emerges successful in every single case also sound like fantasy.

Despite all the drawbacks, the series keeps the viewers entertained. It is also a mix of desi, thriller and drama. The actual plan or the female lead's future is kept for the next season.

More Family Drama than Court Drama
cifarshayar15 July 2023
I was excited to watch Kajol as a lawyer first time in her career. But all expectations faded away after watching the series because it was centered around the family drama instead of the court room drama and whatever they have shown failed to entertain me.

Kajol as lawyer was missing most of the time, I would have love to watch her debating in the court in spite of having personal problems. The start look promising and setting stage for that court room drama but as it progressed further into more episodes that excitement ended. Characters are good and performed well but Disney-hotstar need to inspire from Criminal Justice for this series.

Terrible show
manikamehra-4591128 July 2023
Looks like they did not do absolutely did no research on how a court room drama pans out. The arguments given by the lawyers in the court room scenes were horrendous to say the least. Don't waste your time watching this underwhelming show. The acting is ok but looks like the story was put toton a haste and has no real substance to it. The girl who plays Juhi and the prosecutor lawyer did not play their parts well at all. The Mohit line of sequence is such a drag. I could not believe some of the dialogues really. Just giving it 1 star because I could not stand the show and would not recommend watching it to anyone.

Kajol steals the show as the lead.
queenlinds14 July 2023
Kajol shines as the lead. Writing, direction, performances of other actors are to the point. Dont miss this remake. You will enjoy it I will say this show is better than the original. Glad that the makers played with the script and made suitable for Indian audiences. Kajol pushed her boundary and how, when actors of generation including male superstars are either romancing actresses half their age or doing mindless action films, female actors appearing as typical mothers, Kajol did something she never did before. Salute Kajol for her performance and bravery. She is the best actress in Bollywood.

Gripping Family Drama with Room for Improvement
sanahashamkhan29 September 2023
I recently watched "The Trial - Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka" on Disney+ Hotstar, and I must say, it's a gripping family drama with a perfect storyline. The series, starring the talented Kajol, Jisshu Sengupta, Kubbra Sait, and Gaurav Pandey, revolves around the life of former litigator Noyonika Sen, played brilliantly by Kajol. The story takes a tragic turn when Noyonika discovers her husband's corrupt practices, leading her back to the courtroom after a decade-long break.

Kajol's performance is outstanding, and the emotional depth she brings to her character is commendable. The series delves into complex themes of betrayal, redemption, and the intricacies of relationships, making it a compelling watch for anyone who enjoys intense family dramas.

However, while the main storyline is compelling, I couldn't help but notice the supporting courtroom case stories in each episode could have been better developed. These subplots felt somewhat rushed and lacked the depth that the main storyline possessed. It left me wanting more in terms of exploration and complexity.

On the positive side, the series is available in multiple languages, catering to a diverse audience. The portrayal of Noyonika's journey as she grapples with her personal dilemma is handled with sensitivity, making it a relatable experience for viewers.

In conclusion, "The Trial - Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka" is a must-watch for fans of family dramas, especially for Kajol's exceptional performance and the gripping central plot. However, with more attention to the supporting courtroom cases, it could have been a perfect 5-star experience.

Boring series. You can avoid it
vivs201017 July 2023
Seems like scriptwriter watches too many family dramas. This is the issue when people who doesn't know anything about court cases, our Indian courts, how the Lawyers and judges interact with each other, they write legal dramas. Very poorly written show. The makers thought they will hire Kajol and everyone will watch it, irrespective of what they show. This has become a problem of our story writers who doesn't know how to handle female oriented scripts. I have personally watched "The Good Wife" and writers Michelle and Robert King did such a good job.

One thing I like is the depiction of our Indian media. Hope our makers will rise above the emotional drama and daily soaps themes. Try to watch the actual series.

THE TRIAL (Noyonika)

Warning: Spoilers
Queen Kajol's movies were always on the first level, great and powerful, but this amazing series entertained everyone and shared fascinating stories. Queen Kajol is always great and perfect. I love you Noyonika The magic of the Queen's acting is always visible and shines brighter than ever. This movie is the description of a complete series and the real law, for which Noyonika has no difficulty. The real meaning of everything is the law of something. It is easy to teach others, but it is difficult to understand. It makes Noyonika condition stronger. Kajol's miracle in this series was never ending.

Bhudape kee lovestory in Court
kilorome31 July 2023
First this is great comeback or Kajol and she is still that star in acting and ofcourse the home production of Devgans are always unique and surprising. I personal watch what they produce as it's unpredictable and new.

Coming back to this telemovie it's has masala of kids although it's not a kids movie. A religious shots as any family goes (good). Buddo ka romance as all actors are choosen looking at Kajols age. Everyone contributed to this great movie as all are mature and we'll established Salutes to actor choosers.

The story line is very week and whenever it try to fall in place that Prashant Kishore comes and take credit.very poor role and character.

I feel if U are looking for a mix course meal like jelly for kids and fish for U with no Punjabi tadka . It's a good break with some case studies of court.

Last: The star of the show is legendry Kiran Kumar Wow!

Kajol is Stellar in The Trial
crb-1711323 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the series. Kajol's performance as the trial lawyer, Noyonika, was excellent. Though modeled after the US Good Wife, the stories and court room set ups were quite different. I also liked that, even though pressured from family, including her children, and her husband's colleagues, she did not trust and forgive her husband. As a student of Indian culture, I find this refreshing as the culture promotes family first and in many cases the wife would forgive and forget.

Kajol is excellent at articulation and speaking volumes with her facial expressions and her eyes. While I liked the character of Vishal Chaubey, I found the torch he carried for Noyonika to be quite exaggerated, and this got in the way of the story. The actors in the series were all very good. Kubbra Sait said a lot using facial expressions and her eyes.

Additionally, the young girls ongoing access to the pornographic videos should never have been part of this series. This caused me to lower my rating to a 7.

Given the series 8 finale where Rajeev announces his future plans, I look forward to season 2, if there is one. As of today this has not been confirmed.

Fake Feminism Totally (They forgot 498A)
viraj-1771219 July 2023
This series is nothing but degrading MEN in all episodes.

Apart from this feminism point, storyline is totally weak and they lost the plot completely.

They didn't stick to the single case like 'Criminal Justice' but they have shown too many cases which actually seemed too boring.

In short, they tried to show advocates' life and their routine, nothing else.

They have shown how judges do their work and how the courtroom functions. But they lost the main point and it is the storyline.

As I've said earlier, they are just degrading MEN and tried to show that WOMEN are MEN's toy and their puppet.

But in real life, they forgot about the article 498A which is used by WOMEN endlessly to drag MEN to the court unnecessarily.

Decent show
neethaquarian17 July 2023
I don't know why this show has such a low rating. It is a well made and well acted series. It was a little overwhelming as we are used to see one case running at a time, but here along with the main case, there are multiple small cases going on, which were not shown in depth and did lead to a little confusion to me. I think the pacing could have been a little slow.

All the characters have a well made arch and I am happy that after a long time Kajol got to showcase what she is capable of. Her face is an art and her acting is top notch. Waiting for season 2 but I hope it doesn't stretch further than season2, as I don't like long running series.
