It’s already been a good 2024 for anime. Most notably, you have “The Boy and the Heron” winning Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, making for the first anime film to win the prize since another Hayao Miyazaki classic, “Spirited Away,” did so back in 2002. But outside of that big accomplishment, the year has also birthed a ton of great shows already, with a strong winter 2024 season that included great new shows like “Delicious in Dungeon,” “Bucchigiri,” and “Sengoku Youko.”
If Winter 2024 was a great start, Spring 2024 promises to be even more packed. That’s mainly because two of the biggest series currently ongoing are debuting their new seasons this April, the type of blockbuster series even non-anime fans might have heard of. Premiering its seventh season and 139th episode, “My Hero Academia” — an action series about the exploits of students at an academy for superheroes — will release on...

Kaiju No. 8 is one of the most anticipated anime of 2024. The manga became pretty popular due to its unique plot. Mangaka Naoya Matsumoto has created one of the best manga of the modern generation, with the possibility of becoming one of the best anime in the upcoming days. The anime is scheduled to air on April 13, 2024.
Fans loved the trailer and have high expectations from the anime. Kafka’s journey is quite interesting compared to other Shonen protagonists. During an interview, the editor-in-chief mentioned that Kaiju No. 8 was created from the mangaka’s desire to do something different. He is a massive fan of superhero stories, and it is reflected in his magnum opus.

There are many coming-of-age stories that can take place in the transitory phase of maturity but a subgenre of the same is where Kaiju No. 8 lies. The subgenre is referred to as delayed coming of age. The themes of maturity, finding yourself in the world, and other such factors remain, except that the age of the protagonist is much past their 20s. One of the biggest examples of the same can be Julia Roberts’ Eat, Pray, Love.

Kaiju No. 8 stands as another such story. In the world of shonen manga, to establish oneself in such a magnitude is a big feat on its own. Naoya Matsumoto managed to do so with common tropes and a unique vision.

Kaiju No. 8 stands out in one way many shonen works fail to. It is relatable in a way most coming-of-age stories wouldn’t be. At the same time, it keeps tropes from the genre in a flow that helped it gain its popularity even more. There is much support for the idea introduced, however, it is the protagonist who holds the aces.
A still from the Kaiju No. 8 trailer
As the series premiere approaches, questions are being thrown here and there about just how such a concept came into being. A character who is regarded as well past his prime gets to live his journey through life in a way he never saw coming.

Kaiju No. 8 is both the most anticipated anime of the season and one of the most worrisome at the same time. The series is about to make its premiere and although there is a lot of hype surrounding it, it also comes with backlash for one reason or another. Needless to say, Naoya Matsumoto’s work is the talk of the town, or rather the world.

With the anime adaptation coming out on the 14th of next month, creator Naoya Matsumoto reveals he has been following the production on every step. Kaiju No.8, the shonen manga focusing on Kaijuu, mythical monsters originating from Japan, started releasing chapters in July 2020 and is still ongoing.
It follows the story of Kafka Hibino, a middle-aged man working as a cleaning operative, who dreams of becoming a soldier fighting Kaijuu, appearing in Japan, because of a promise he made to his childhood friend. The idea of humans transforming into monsters to address injustice isn’t new; manga like Attack on Titan and Parasyte have already included it. Still, Kaiju No.8 returns to the notion that if a human becomes a kaiju, it must be among the strongest and the greatest of two species.
While some may dismiss Kaiju No.8 as a mere imitation of Attack On Titan, it actually presents the narrative with a finesse that arguably surpasses its predecessor.
Echoing the legendary Godzilla series, Kaiju No.8 mirrors Attack On Titan in several ways, particularly in how its central characters, Kafka Hibino, and Eren Yeager, possess the remarkable ability to morph into the very creatures that threaten their worlds.
The Parralel of Kafka and Eren Yeager
Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan
Unlike Eren Yeager, who was praised for his mastery of omnidirectional mobility gear against Titans, Kafka is essentially at a disadvantage with his humanity.
