- In a desperate last stand, Jean-Luc Picard and generations of crews both old and new fight together to save the galaxy from the greatest threat they've ever faced.
- Anton Chekov (Walter Koenig) is the President of the United Federation of Planets, and puts out an emergency advisory not to approach Earth. Anton outlines how the young have been assimilated by the Borg and the entire fleet has been compromised. Only space station Sol stands between the Borg controlled Starfleet and Earth.
Picard and the Enterprise crew find the Borg Cube hiding in the clouds of Jupiter. The Borg are broadcasting Jack's signal via an amplifier on the cube. If the Enterprise can sever that connection, the fleet can be saved.
Seven liberates the Titan from the assimilated crew. Raffi figures out that the fleet control system of the Borg uses line of sight communication. Seven engages the cloaking device to free the ship from Borg automated ship control.
Deanna can sense Jack on the cube but has been consumed by the collective. Beverly analyses the energy patterns coming from the cube to isolate Jack's location. Worf and Riker infiltrate the Cube. Worf and Riker find an entire army of drones, but the entire army is deceased. Beverly finds Jack's location and relays to Picard. Picard finds Jack fully assimilated by the Borg. The Borg Queen is different from the Agnes Jurati Borg Queen faction, who is busy guarding a trans warp conduit in the Beta Quadrant. The body of even this Borg Queen is heavily decomposed, but the Queen is alive.
The Queen reveals that after Kathryn Janeway's pathogen attack decimated the Borg. The Queen saw her entire army die in front of her eyes. In that loneliness, she heard Jack's voice loud and clear. The remnants of the Collective struck a deal with the rogue Changelings to destroy the Federation from the inside. She also reveals her intent to use the newly assimilated Starfleet youth to breed a new generation of Borg that will annihilate all other life.
Picard plugs into the hive mind to rescue Jack from the Queen's influence. He realizes that he has been running from the Borg, but now he has a reason to go back into the Collective.
The assimilated fleet disables the Titan, destroys Earth's planetary shields including space station Sol, and starts targeting major cities. The Enterprise (guided by Worf and Riker) locates the beacon on the cube broadcasting Jack's command signal. Riker & Worf are attacked by drones on the cube and the cube opens fire on the Enterprise. Riker kills the drones, and the Enterprise fights the cube. They find that the beacon is at the heart of the cube itself. Data flies the Enterprise into the heart of the cube. Geordi realizes that destroying the beacon means destroying the cube and everyone on it. Beverly agrees to fire at the beacon, which mean sacrificing Jack, but saving everyone else in the Galaxy. Eventually, the beacon is destroyed, causing a chain reaction, while Picard succeeds in freeing Jack from the Queen. Picard convinces Jack that he has a family outside of the Borg.
The Enterprise beams up Worf, Riker, Picard and Jack, and escapes the exploding Cube. With the Borg ship and the Queen destroyed, the assimilated Starfleet personnel return to normal.
In the aftermath, Picard and the others receive full pardons, while the Enterprise is returned to the Fleet Museum. Crusher modifies the transporters to remove the Borg DNA and expose the remaining Changeling infiltrators. On Shaw's posthumous recommendation, Tuvok promotes Seven to the rank of captain.
One year later, the Enterprise crew reminisce over drinks and a game of poker. The Titan is rechristened the USS Enterprise-G, now captained by Seven, with Raffi as her first officer and Jack, now a Starfleet ensign, as the captain's special counselor.
Jack receives a visit from Q (John De Lancie), who says Jack's trial has just begun.
