The bible quote recited by Nick Amaro & Jimmy Vasquez was NOT John 1:9, but 1 John 1:9, and was supposed to have been: "But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." The New Living Translation (NLT) is the only English translation to contain "wickedness" in this verse. They misquoted it as "If we confess our sins, then he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all wickedness."
When Finn and Rollins arrest Murphy, the bookie, they tell him he better confess to being a bookmaker or they'll charge him with selling alcohol to a minor. However in the state of New York selling alcohol to a minor is not a criminal offense, but a civil one, the penalty is a fine and possible suspension of the bar's liquor license. Whereas bookmaking is a criminal offense, Murphy was taking bets from dozens, perhaps hundreds of people, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. That makes him guilty of Possession of Gambling Records in the First Degree, a class E felony, and since Murphy has prior felony convictions it carries a sentence of at least one year in prison and a maximum of up to four years in prison.
