Axel now has a patent for the electric curler, and the country's biggest beauty fair is just around the corner. He allies himself with the hairdresser, Frans, who thinks the curler is brilliant, while the wife, Tove, is worried about the amount of money he is throwing into the project. Birthe's husband, Jørgen, is diagnosed with leukemia, which only a new form of chemotherapy in Germany can cure. The small family is nowhere near having the DKK 50,000, but Birthe refuses to give up.
