Anne Heche is brilliant!
Mike138825 May 2013
I haven't written any reviews for quite sometime now on IMDb, but seeing Save Me's rating, I thought I should contribute something. I just finished watching the first and second episodes of Save Me, and I feel it was a perfect fit.

Over the years we have seen comedy shows trying to be different and stand out, but sadly, most of them failed. I am not saying Save Me won't face the same verdict, but from what I've seen so far, it is a good TV.

Anne Heche played this neurotic yet bubbly housewife character, who think she can talks to God, or can she? And accompanying her is the always dashing, Michael Landes who stars as her husband. Let's hope this one stays!

I will watch it for Anne Heche's performance
rick-695-5871926 May 2013
Not crazy about the writing or directing. Writers and the Director are rushing through the story.

Anne Heche is delightful. I just read her Bio. I couldn't place her at first. The last time I saw her was in "Men in Trees". For better or worse, I must admit that her relationship with Ellen kind of spoiled that series for me in the sense that her real life sexual preferences had an impact on the believability of the show. Only now do understand that she had taken heterosexuality back up by the time that show aired.

Knowing about her personal bouts with her self-admitted "insanity" as a child and adult will make this series much more delicious.

Beth Harper (Anne Heche) is a self-obsessed suburban mom. Her daughter (Madison Davenport) despise her. Her husband (Michael Landes) is cheating on her. When she confronts the mistress (Alexandra Breckenridge), she is struck by lightning. She starts hearing God and attempts to enact changes.

Anne Heche is manic but not really funny. In fact, the show is quirky but not really funny. It's watchable, but I wouldn't recommend it. I certainly understand why only 7 episodes were made. There's just not enough jokes in it. At least none that were funny.

Not a bad show.
zackddog-897-20468130 May 2013
Anne Heche gives a very likable and -if you think she's crazy- a very believable performance.

And if you don't think that she's crazy and actually God is talking to her -"What do I call you? Dog. That's God backwards, because that's how you're treating me/behaving"- she's even funnier in her earnestness.

The rest of the cast is also very good, in all of their befuddlement and indecision. Is she crazy? Isn't she? Well, at least she's acting like an adult.

Too bad that the God premise doomed this show from the start, the religious element would not/can not/will not let a show that's slightly irreverent succeed. This show could have been a very good and smartly done one. One without the car chases, the forced drama and the gratuitous sex angles.

some gods are buzz kills

I was skeptical before I watched the first episode. Didn't want to be missioned. But I really liked every one of the way too few episodes.

Luckuly it wasn't morally waggling with some profound messages. Instead it showed a really charming and quite amusing way to handle the crazy idea called god.

It is really sad the show got canceled. Although it's surprising there were after all 7 Episodes of it, before this heresy was banned from TV.

Guess, you can't make a crazy person laugh about the voices in it's head.

God damned hypocrites! May they all slowly die of Syphilis.

7/10 worth a watch easy viewing has a lot of potential.
dannyreviews124 May 2013
I think this is quite a good show. Better than a lot I've seen of late. The plot has been set early on we know she talks to god, This could give so many stories in the future of the show. I think given time this could become a show that people might start watching, when others talk about and explain the plot. 7/10 worth a watch easy viewing has a lot of potential.OK it might not have the best ratings on IMDb i don't know why maybe its because its gone down the god route but this show has got a set up to make it a good show,The characters are cast very nicely the acting is pretty good.definitely deserves a a higher rating than it currently has.

Better than the average sit-com.

Beth gets a second chance at life, family, and friends after she accidentally chokes on a sandwich. God has intervened and helped this misguided, alcoholic, joke of the neighborhood, become the person she has always wished she was.

As someone who has nothing up with religion, I was skeptical to watch this Series. The mainly reason to watch it, was for Anne Heche. This is however not a pro- or anti-religious show. The show dares to bring God into the storyline, but with a contemporary approach. The moral and ethical messages are funny and light carried out.

Heche shows her outstanding comedic timing and facial mimic in this Show. She makes an unlikely character touchy and believable. The rest of the cast are not in her league, but the acting is more than decent.

Especially the first 3-4 episode are funny and well written from then on the director is rushing through the story and the show gets less enjoyable. The show is fast paced and the format of 20- 25 minutes suits it well. This comedy is different but better than the average sit-com.

Hilarious show
Mkeggers2 June 2013
How refreshing to laugh out loud for a whole show and to have humor that doesn't come from putting someone down. Save Me is just a well written, fast paced show. Anne Heche is so engaging and has perfect timing. Her naivety and energy make her a very lovable character The rest of the cast adds to the frivolity of it and will provide lots of material for future episodes The daughter, Madison Davenport, plays the perfect teenager, with sharp one-liners and eye rolls.

As the He/She god gives messages to Beth Harper we are all forced to think about how we would respond and are then surprised by some of the twists the show takes

We've been telling everyone about it because who can't use a good laugh?! Hope you enjoy it, too!

Just watched it, brilliant and funny.

Warning: Spoilers
I think a lot of people are going to hate the show without even watching it, why? because it's about a woman who thinks she hears god's voice in her mind.

Well, i have a couple of reasons for those people to watch this show:

1- How can you rate a TV show without even watching it?

2- The protagonist isn't even a church person, in fact she has a hard time accepting the fact that 'god' is talking to her.

3- The people around her think she went crazy, who wouldn't? which creates funny interactions between the characters.

4- This show (at least the two first episodes) is not about convincing you to believe in 'god', so don't worry, you don't need to believe for it to be funny.

5- Imagine suddenly one day your mother, your wife or your daughter started telling people that they hear god's voice, how would you react?

I believe people shouldn't judge this show just because 'god' is in it, give it a chance, if you don't even smile while watching it, well, it isn't for you, but the jokes are there, and they're good enough to make me laugh.

If you enjoy comedy, i assure this show is for you.

Enjoyable
broschultz27 May 2013
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised. Nice lighthearted look at a spiritual awakening. Paul was thrown from a horse so this isn't so far fetched. Looking forward to more episodes. In this day and age half hour shows seem like a tease but probably works best for this type of show. Short and sweet message, no need to drag out a plot line. Acting was very good for a spiritual show. Reminds me of the show a few years ago where the lawyer was having visions. Only this one is simpler, so far, to follow. The church music scene was a little over the top but the priest/pastor was played nicely. The music certainly adds to the show just had a problem with her just jumping in and knowing the words when she said she had never been in a church before. Also music didn't fit with the type of church that would have a priest/pastor wearing the normal denominational gown outfit. Writers have to decide on what kind of church this is going to be.

A theological Scrubs
revdon4730 May 2013
I've watched 3 episodes and am a fan. I was skeptical at first but this is a well written, smart, funny show. It reminds me very much of Scrubs from a few years back. The characters are very representative of our post-modern, secular culture. Woven through the irreverent dialog are some very good moral, ethical messages. Anne Heche as the main character Beth who has found God following a traumatic event is comically representative of the modern new believer. Theologically and doctrinally naive she is unabashed in her belief unlike the only other professed believer in the cast who largely sublimates her beliefs in the face of her skeptical peers unbelief. Save Me is a bold entry in the sitcom landscape that has seemed to venerate themes that in prior years would have been considered socially unacceptable. ironically, talking about God in media has become counter cultural. save Me is making it cool again. Give it a shot. You just might be pleasantly surprised.

Funny in an smart yet innocent way
Ctrl-Alt-DL8 June 2013
Finally I've found a comedy worth watching. Anne Hathe plays a train-wreck of a mother who finds her self speaking with god. Surrounded by her skeptical friends and family. She tries, in her own innocent and adorably funny way to do gods will.

This is however not a pro- or anti-religious show. The show finds a middle ground in it's hilarious one-liners and well written script.

People might judge the show without seeing it. (I did.) But you definitely need too see a few episodes before you dismiss it. If you do it's a very hard show to dismiss.

I hope this show grows a large following. It deserves it.

Really great show, Anne Heche is wonderful!
smileybug-356-783051 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show! I have always liked Anne Heche, from way back in her soap opera days. She is wonderful in this. Very uplifting and fun. Funny but not in the usual slapstick, one liner, sitcom way. Hope this show gets good reviews and a lot of followers. Love to see it picked up again next year. Anne gets a second chance at life, family, and friends after she accidentally chokes on a sandwich. God has intervened and helped this misguided, alcoholic, joke of the neighborhood, become the person she has always wished she was. Now it's just convincing the rest of the people in her life that she indeed has changed, God really does talk to her, and she is definitely NOT crazy. Different storyline for a sitcom. Refreshing.

I'm Loving It
diana-700-62553731 May 2013
OK, so I've used IMDb for a long time now and have never took the time (until now) to write a review.

I just finished watching the first 4 episodes of Save Me and I have to say that this is really good television.

Outside of Modern Family this is definitely my favorite sitcom on television right now. I was unsure about Anne Heche when I saw the previews but she does a great job! Have never considered myself a fan of hers before, but I do now!

Casting is great and so far the story lines have been even better! Sure hope this show sticks around! It makes me want to watch sitcoms again!

Absolutely love this show
uncarob31 May 2013
First of all, I have to say I've never been a fan of Anne Heche.. but ya know what... I just love her in this. Her comedic timing in this is amazing. Story lines are hilarious, touching and all around good fun. Anne is adorable in this show. The whole concept is as close to 'novel' that Hollywood puts out as one can hope for. It's 'Touched by an Angel', 'Saving Grace' wrapped up in a ticklish taco (I know, really bad metaphor, but I'm kind of hungry right now). Few shows make me laugh out loud, and I love to laugh out loud.

Don't deprive yourself of watching this program, 'swear to God' you won't regret it.

A Good Message
leverton666 June 2013
Even a non believer should be able to appreciate Save Me as a positive influence on our society and it's entertaining in the process. The references to God are deliberately vague and open to interpretation. I can give an example. Whether she is psychotic or listing to Yoda is left for you to decide. At the same time it manages to be uplifting when it reminds people to Be: Kind, Humble, Loving, Non-Judgemental. A major lesson in the show is the importance of wearing someone down with your love. Being consistently and persistently loving usually provides the cure. While being a little simplistic it's still a good message for American Viewers. It has to be better than the reality shows which show people being demeaned and humiliated and judged as unworthy. Refreshing!

Best show in years
greenobp24 July 2013
What an awesome show for all ages. My teen aged daughter and I laugh out loud through every episode. Love it!

What a courageous role for Anne Heche. And she performs it expertly.

This is a show that dares to bring God into the storyline, but with a contemporary—yet respectful—approach. The humour is smart. The lead character is far from perfect; we can relate to her pledge to become a better person. We may not have the direct line to God like she does, but we share the inner voice guiding us and challenging us to be 'good'.

It is so refreshing to find a show genuinely funny, well written, and original. With guest stars like Betty White, how can it go wrong.

This show deserves a chance to find its audience.

Contemporary Positive Comedy
patricia-s-root15 June 2013
While this series had a slow start by episode 5 I am sold and and can hardly wait for next weeks episode. Yes, the show has positive values and positive message, but we observe the characters do the same things we do (yes to extreme) which makes the program so relevant and identifiable. And it's not just me that loves this program! My husband humored me by watching episodes one and two with me. By the third episode he expressed concern that due to it's positive nature and God as a central character, the general viewing public would not support it. I hope he's wrong. If you are looking for factual Christian beliefs, this is not the show for you. However, it does deliver on values (which is missing from much of today's programing)

Please give us more!!
comolinda27 June 2013
Okay. I just signed up so that I can comment on "Save Me." Hope it will help bring the show back.

Today is Thursday. My husband and I were so looking forward to watching this show tonight, but, unfortunately, I hear there are no more episodes? Am I right?

Anne Heche is perfect in her role as Beth Harper. She is neurotic but lovable. She is dead-set on obeying the "Voice," no matter how crazy it may be.

Because of its title, we were initially hesitant to watch this show because we thought it would bash on Christians. Oh, but we were so pleasantly surprised. We literally laughed out loud throughout most of the episodes. It is charming, hilarious, witty, well-written, no hidden agenda - well, maybe one: Love one another.

Please bring it back!!!! We want to watch more!!

Just a great show
dexteritymaster7 July 2013
Generally it's one of the best new shows of this year.Yeah it's short, and yeah it has a bit of prophet gig. But the script is great, actors played well and I'd give this show at least 8/10.(Generally giving more to fix numbers)

I don't know why IMDb gives Ratings: 5.6/10, because if you'll check out votes, the Arithmetic mean is = 7.3, Median = 8. Who calculated it to be 5.6, and not somewhere between 7.3 and 8? (And it's already counting that a quarter of votes is lower than 5.) And you know why there are so much low votes? Because there are always some maniacally religious people that would be against this type of show.

But even if such people watched show till the end, they would have seen, that main character does nothing but helps people in any way she can. Is it so bad propaganda? Maybe this show is controversial, but not in any way bad!

Really Like
inkerbell16 June 2013
I typically do not watch half hour comedies. I watched it because I like Anne Heche. I was not disappointed.

Much different from many other comedies I have seen. All the characters bring a nice mix to the show.

It surprises me how that networks don't give shows a chance these days. I certainly hope that the writing continues to be smart and entertaining. And that we will see this show stick around.

I really like that they have already had some guest stars. It makes for a nice surprise. They should continue to include guest stars.

It seems like there would be some opportunities for some great story lines. Nicely done. I will continue to watch.
