Decent flick. Kept me interested.

This is not your average horror movie. It has a Cabin Fever feel to it, but is fairly slow moving. The slow pace of the film is not as noticible since the acting is better than most indie movies. It has a subtle yet unnerving feel to the story something that a lot of filmakers can't pull off. With a little tweaking this would be a really good film. Worth a watch.

Good film but with terrible music
shanicenew5 April 2013
I really didn't know what to expect when I watched this film, but I was quite impressed, good acting, good storyline, the only bad thing about this movie is the music, throughout the film the backing music seems to have been written and performed by a child, or someone with no musical talent whatsoever. The music is so bad it lets the film down hugely and at times you simply wish there was none at all, it would be better without the childish soundtrack composed by Daniel Baker. I can only assume that Mr. Baker must have been a very close friend of the producer, or had some financial input towards the production, there's no other explanation as to why he was allowed to ruin this otherwise plausible movie with such terrible backing tracks. In my opinion the film should be re-edited and released with a decent sound track, it would boost the film from a 4/10 to a 7 or 8/10. Good film, rubbish music.

If you got nothing better to do...

Let me start off by saying I have a realistic star rating, If I'm giving a movie anything lower than 3 stars that means it was shot on a Motorola flip phone with low battery life

Anyway on to the review! Not much to say here though, just as the title says "if you got nothing better to do" throw this on! This film could have benefited greatly from a larger budget!

Who wrote this crap

Nobody tries to get help at all. 4 people are clearly in need of medical help, ut they sit around to smoke a joint and talk about movies. The two clowns that aren't infected sit around and talk about relationships. Can we get 1 horror movie where the people aren't complete morons?

Not worth your time

Micro budget films aren't necessarily bad but this one certainly was. A group of young people trespass onto private land for a night of fun. Something in the water gives them all rashes and that's where the suspense begins. Or at least it should. None of the characters makes the slightest effort to get back home or to a hospital but instead continue to discuss relationships and the possibility of getting help. Incredible. They get what they deserve in a bizarre who cares ending that could have come sooner, like five minutes after this thing started.

Seriously Bad

This movie takes way too long to get anywhere and has alot of pot holes. When it finally picks up, it's underwhelming. Don't expect much if you decide to watch this movie. You most likely will be better off not wasting time watching this movie. I would have been.

A thoughtful indie

Weaverfish is an excellent film for the budget and expectations. If you're expecting a Hollywood blockbuster, you are probably watching the wrong film. If you want to see strong directing, beautiful cinematography and some shock performances from actors, this would be your cup of tea.

The film is HEAVILY focused on character and it sits on the strength of the emotions you feel for the characters. Shane O'Maara and Lucy Quinlan-Jones are excellent in the lead roles, while support cast also have moments to shine. The understated performance of Shane is perhaps the highlight of the film, with many scenes getting by on his simplistic yet highly effective acting style. The characters themselves are well thought out and believable, thus we feel their pain and their excitement equally. Some moments of dialogue feel slightly juvenile, but in general the script does its job in making the audience believe who they are watching are real.

The narrative is let down a little by the pace of the film whereby you get thrown in very fast with snappy scenes to begin, but then slow during the character building which at times drags. The plot itself is simple, vague and intriguing, meshing together a coming of age story with a horror. The audience doesn't feel spoon fed, which is testament to scripting, but at times characters seem to totally evade plot to just tangent away. Although this did a lot for character building, at times it detracted from the building tensions and left the film feeling a little loose around the edges. The ending also felt a little rushed, however, I greatly appreciate the director's choice to end the film as he did and was not disappointed.

The visuals and effects were all beautiful and music stands up on its own to hold things together. All in all, it is technically a very sound film and you probably notice less hiccoughs then in many bigger productions. That said, it would have benefited from a higher budget to increase the amount of visual presence of effects and "villain" characters. On that note it was also disappointing that there is 1 shot where the villain is spoon fed to the audience. That was unnecessary as the more subtle appearances were more effective and the spoon feeding shot broke some semblance of the believability of the narrative.

Wall's directing ability is clear from this; that is he has a lot of talent and is beginning to find his film making feet. What he missed in the pacing, he made up for in creating a gripping story that does not let an audience leave. With more experience and a higher budget, we can expect Wall to begin producing character driven films with a grounding in the socially relevant and the delightfully strange! One to watch!

Brilliantly written, great original soundtrack... Would thoroughly recommend!
MKShock121 June 2012
A group of friends enter restricted grounds without permission with the aim of having a party but strange things start to happen... I won't spoil the story for the viewer, you need to see it yourself!

An original concept, the filmmakers have done a wonderful job of creating an exciting, tense atmosphere that made the whole audience jump out of their seats! The completely original soundtrack is perfect for its purpose and the actors are all believable, drawing the viewer in and keeping them spellbound until slowly the underlying mysteries are revealed..

Loved it!!
