As he tries to persuade her to go out with him, Quinn has her own agenda. Meanwhile, as Robin has moved out of Ted's apartment after Marshall told her that staying would only hurt Ted in the long run, Ted tries to move on by figuring out something useful to do with Robin's old bedroom. Robin, not knowing where to go, is temporarily staying with Marshall and Lily in their Long Island house. Robin's stay may be longer than she first anticipated if only because Marshall and Lily, who have settled into suburban bliss, won't let her leave. As Robin tries to maneuver her way out of their house and back into the city, she learns why Marshall and Lily are so desperate for her to stay. Ted may provide the solution for Marshall and Lily's problem and well as his own.—Huggo
- Barney decides to pursue Quinn, even after discovering she works as a stripper named Karma. Barney believes that the Universe is throwing them in each other's path for some reason. Although she appears interested, she avoids answering Barney as he continuously tries to ask her out on a second date, claiming that her boss is always watching. This way Barney has to continue paying Quinn for lap dances for a chance to continue talking to her. Barney ended up giving Quinn $900 and his Rolex. When Barney sees Quinn behaving similarly towards another client, he realizes Quinn was just playing him and leaves the club. He tells Quinn that he really tried this time, but Quinn made her realize that Barney was right in his scheming approach towards women. Barney later runs into Quinn at a coffee shop and chides her for playing him, but she tells him off for failing to recognize her even though she has worked at the Lusty Leopard for a year. When she mentions a number of things that Barney mentioned to her (like he has a gay colored brother, and that his friend smokes meat in his room and that his mother has a band named after her), he accepts her offer to sit down for coffee, suggesting she is actually interested in him.
Robin has temporarily moved in with Lily and Marshall, but becomes annoyed at their mundane lifestyle. Lily has given Robin a diary to maintain a journal. The days are spent at a museum and the evening at a lone bowling alley with the same neighbors day after day. Acitivites include table shuffle board and macrame classes. The menus at restaurants display pictures of the food on offer. Desert has fireworks in it. They go to sleep before 9 PM, wearing a blanket cum smock which is very convenient and warm. Robin wants to go and stay with Patrice, but Lily and Marshall say that there is a problem with the train. Lily throws ice cream in Robin' suitcase and takes away all her clothes for laundry, while Marshall locks Robin in her room. Lily donates all of Robin's clothes to charity and Marshall wants her to try the new smock. Robin knows that they are trying to make her one of them. When she attempts to flee one night, Lily and Marshall catch her. They admit they find the suburbs boring, but believe it is best for their future child. Robin tells them that if they are unhappy with where they live, that will not make it the best place for their child. Robin finally moves out to stay with a colleague.
Since Robin has moved out, Ted attempts to take his mind off of her by using her empty room for various hobbies such as smoking meats, woodworking, and pottery. Robin goes to meet Ted later, and helps him realize that some things shouldn't be forced and that one should instead just move on. She also tells Ted that Lily and Marshall are not happy in Long Island. A few days later, Lily and Marshall receive a message from Ted to come hang out in the city, and the two eagerly rush off. When arriving at Ted's apartment, they find the place empty and a note from Ted. Ted never took their names off the lease, and he has decided to move out for good as he needs a change. He gives the apartment to Marshall and Lily and has decided that Robin's old room should be used for their baby.
