A lavish production.

The rise of a jazz band, from playing at a small time club to receiving royal approval, and playing at The Imperial.

It's an incredibly good start, I adore everything penned by Stephen Poliakoff, but this is magical. It subtly shows us the British class system, and just how tough it would have been for anyone of colour. Racism isn't always in the form of physical or verbal abuse, it can be way more subtle than that, this shows us exactly what forms it can take.

I love the look on the faces of the stuffy guests when the band first start playing. All of Poliakoff's signatures are there, photography, memories, eccentric characters etc.

It is loaded with beautiful bright young things, Joanna Vanderham, Jenna Louise Coleman and Tom Hughes.

It really is a delectable cast, and so nice to see people cast in somewhat unusual roles, John Goodman case in point, I don't ever recall him doing something like this, but he has true star quality.

A spellbinding start, 9/10.
