Kannai and Deb Das Baul are internationally recognized musicians with many admirers on the world music scene. Kannai Baul, the leader of the Bauls, is the most renowned wandering musician in India, much admired for his voice, poetry and instrument playing. Deb Das is an enigmatic figure in his rural homeland of West Bengal, for many years he was a radio artist on Calcutta All India Radio and has performed in Europe and Japan, in the latter case for the Dalai Lama. With a mix of Chaplainesque comic warmth with a rare emotional availability the lack of self-consciousness in Kannai and Deb Das is transfixing allowing for a film is almost beyond fly on the wall.
