The chess pieces are being moved into their final places.
Desperate Lynette is so intent on ruining Tom's life because she's a terrible and vindictive person that she starts dating Greg, the CEO of Tom's company. Greg is so into ruining Tom's life to impress Lynette (and because he had a bitter divorce of his own) that he starts giving Tom extra work and forcing him to break dates with Jane. This makes makes Jane crazy, Penny is happy to report to her mother. (This whole storyline: Lynette using his boss to get back at Tom, Penny snitching on Tom and Jane's private conversations, and Lynette calmly claiming nothing is going on with the boss is one of the most odious in this show's history.) Greg basically says anytime he can help Lynette piss off Tom and spend more time with Lynette he sees no downside. It escalates to the point where he tells her he's going to transfer Tom to Mumbai, India for a year and they will have Fairview all to themselves. It is here that we really see that Lynette really is a posessive and terrible person and worst still, she doesn't realize this means that she will have all the kids to herself as well. So, she doesn't object even though she seems dazed.
Meanwhile, Carlos shows off his dingy new office as a counselor where he will help recovering drug addicts find jobs and housing. Because she is a terrible, desperate, shallow and self-indulgent person as always, Gaby mocks the office, his work, and his pay. When Gaby meet the rich widow of a big corporate magent she starts exploiting her to make money off her as her personal shopper for her own needs. She invites her home. And when Carlos recalls that her husband was a major philanthropis he lures her and her bank account away from Gaby and has her invest in his non-profit group instead. Gaby is incensed, since she works on commission. (Carlos also seems to be overlooking the fact that Gaby's work is actually helping to pay their bills. Yes, his work is useful and important but isn't keeping the roof over his own actual head.) Gaby is so mad that, because she is a terrible person, she makes over his office to look like he spends all the money that comes into the office has gone right into his office including a baby grand piano with a candelabra, a fancy gold desk, and fancy decorations. The widow sees this and is disgusted and takes her money elsewhere. Carlos comes home and is incensed at what Gaby did. She points out that he's just mad that he lost. He's a shark, says Gaby, who has simply turned his shark-like tendencies to another venture. He seems unsettled by this but also to recognize that it's true. He says he wants to be a different kind of man.
On the Delfino front, MJ comes home and his mother, the crazy klutz Susan, finds info on a father/son soapbox derby in his bag at his school. It's in three days. Susan being Susan, so desperate and determined to make this work for him that she doesn't see he doesn't want to do it. To the point that after she stays up for two days making a car he rolls it out into traffic. He points out that kids at school are always staring at him and treating him different and he doesn't want to be only kid with his mom at the derby and be even more different. She finally realizes that she can't make the depressed and lonesome MJ's life any better so she does the next best thing; she has Tom, Bob, Lee, and Ben come over to help with a new car. And they all point out that it's not just the car they can help with, he can come to any of them anytime for their help. He appreciates this and the build a replica of a Corvette Sting-Ray, which was Mike's favorite car.
Elsewhere, as Bree gets to know her lawyer Trip she realizes that she has a crush on him, even though they have nothing in common. They laugh, they eat lunch together, they argue, they prep for her case. At the pre-trial hearing, however, it comes out that that prosecutor wants to call at least eight of the dudes that Bree slept with when she was on her bender. It's supposed to help prove to the prosecution's case that she could've slept with Ramon (Alejandro) and simply not have remembered it. Trip says he needs to hear all about it but Bree is embarrassed doesn't want to talk. So he goes first and tells her some embarrassing stories about his sexual history. This loosens her up so she can talk to him. It turns out that it's good that they prepped because it turns out all of this stuff will be admissible in court.
A little later, Bree explains all of this to the girls they clearly see she has a crush on him. She tries to deny it but sees what they're saying. Susan says it makes sense because he's saving her but all the ladies agree she has to keep a clear head and not act on her crush. She agrees but then when she goes to see him later and he suggests talking over case stuff over dinner Bree protests weakly before agreeing to go out with him.
Also, Renee and Ben are working on their wedding plans when she sees he has been subpoena-ed for Bree's trial. (Remember, he was indirectly involved by helping Bree bury Alejandro's dead body on his construction site). He tries to play it off as if it's nothing but she knows that something is up. He begs off. She storms off saying that she's not sure she can marry him if he's going to keep secrets from each other. After he takes a few days to think about it he explains that he is actually protecting her by not telling her what's up so she can't be dragged into it. She points out that in the U.S. they have spousal privilege so the minute they're married he's coming clean and telling her what's up since she can't be forced to testify against him.
