After Insp. Abeline finds part of a dead woman under the floorboards in Homer Jackson's room, he's convinced he's finally found Jack the Ripper. Reid isn't buying it but there seems to be very little he can do. Rose meanwhile has left Long Susan's establishment and taken shelter with Mrs. Emily Reid. When she fails to return one evening, Emily asks her husband to investigate. Information found in her room indicates that she may have placed an advert in a lonely hearts column. This generates the kernel of an idea in Reid's mind and in reviewing some of his old Ripper files, finds that one of the suspects at the time was Victor Silver who had cut out such adverts. Silver was believed to have drowned a year ago in the same boating accident that claimed Reid's daughter. Reid believes he is alive however and kidnapping young women.
