More about the octopus...less about the volcano.
planktonrules30 January 2022
"Octopus Volcano" was an episode of "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom"...though when I found it on my Amazon Fire, it was a standalone documentary.

The setting for this show is in the sea around the island of Stromboli in Italy...one of the more active volcanic islands on the planet. At first it seems like the show is about the island, but soon it becomes obvious that the real focus are the octopi that live in the seas around it. Though short-lived, the creatures are quite smart and resourceful and divers spend much of the show showing these remarkable creatures.

I've seen several other documentaries about octopi and always find the shows interesting...and this is no exception. Well worth seeing.

Sack on facts
Miq2u26 April 2022
While the cinematography was quite nice, there were so many opportunities to share other details about the basic octopus in general. It kind of covers and documents the interesting facts about this specific group of octopi skipping over the general basics and really neat facts about octopi as if everyone is an octopus scientist knowing everything there is to know about the basic octopus species. It felt drawn out kind of like they were trying to build tension for some grand climatic finale, but all I felt was a slow burn report from an 8 grader wanting to add words to get the quota on a 1000 word essay. As far as this series of documentaries goes, I am disappointed this one just felt so flat. There are some amazing shots, and bland to mild excitement, but it feels as though so much that could have been shared was just left out. I felt as though there was a rush to get it done and shipped out and they did the bare minimum to get there. Disappointing.
